Hello again and Merry Christmas Questioners and Answerers!?

Not ‘what is the best present that you have received?’, instead;

What is the best present that you have given?
Are you a good gifter?

(I’m going to have to think about it, but I do think that I’m rather good at choosing presents)

More like odd nights when all my little tricks to relax fail to get me off. After an hour I just give up trying to sleep and get up and do something. Eventually I will become so tired I can go back to bed. and pass out. Retired so can conveniently do this.

What are your tricks for getting off to sleep?

Mine are warm milky drink followed by a shower. Then try to relax and count down from 100.

AGAA4 Sun 09-Jan-22 08:28:44

I always read for half an hour which makes me drowsy. If I don't drop off I use breathing techniques which work.

What time is your last meal of the day?

henetha Sun 09-Jan-22 09:45:55

Last proper meal is 6pm. But there might be a small snack with my hot milk at 9pm. A Cracker biscuit or something.

Do you ever cut your own hair

BBbevan Sun 09-Jan-22 09:57:01

Only my fringe. I used Togo regularly for a hair cut before covid, now DD chops the ends off.

Have you ever coloured your hair a completely different colour to the original? . I never have

Mollygo Sun 09-Jan-22 12:01:53

No. I did wear an auburn wig for a week once for a sponsored challenge. Lovely style and lots of compliments, but it wasn’t really me.
What time does your post arrive?

crazyH Sun 09-Jan-22 12:02:10

I have - usually dark brown, but did have a go at Mahogany- what a disaster that was !!

What’s the best ‘surprise’ you had? Mine was my third pregnancy. Only planned for 2. But what a lovely surprise he turned out to be !!!?

DanniRae Sun 09-Jan-22 12:36:20

My best ever surprise was when my daughter and her fiance called in to say that they couldn't go to her brother's wedding (we were all off to Greece for it) because she was pregnant!! OMG I was so shocked, surprised and delighted - she was 45 at the time and we thought it would never happen. I couldn't stop crying. He is our first grandchild - 2 and a half now and totally the best thing that ever happened - until our son and his wife presented us with our granddaughter, who we adore too.We feel totally blessed. smile

Do you feel that you have a Guardian Angel?

ginny Sun 09-Jan-22 12:55:34

No, not something I believe in. I believe we are sometimes lucky in what happens to us sometimes not.

Re asking my previous question. What is your favourite meat?

biglouis Sun 09-Jan-22 17:04:06

Lamb. I love a traditional dinner with lamb, mint sauce and roasties.

Have you ever travelled to any countries which its difficult to visit nowadays?

Visited Afghanistan (1970s) Syria (2001 and 2004) and Iran (1974 and 1998). Also wanted to visit Yemen but it was never safe as I did not travel with a tour group.

AGAA4 Sun 09-Jan-22 19:21:30

No I never have but there are some I wished I had visited when I had the chance.

Do you enjoy writing? Stories, a diary or more academic pieces.

BBbevan Sun 09-Jan-22 19:45:33

Love writing now . Apart from university essays I never did any. At the beginning of lockdown I started writing a novel. I have now finished two. Just love the whole process.

Would you, out of the blue, contact someone you were fond of in the past? I think I might be a bit wary.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Mon 10-Jan-22 13:34:33

I would definitely be wary as you could be opening up a can of worms.

How far is it your your nearest pub/cafe/restaurant? Do you visit them?

Mollygo Mon 10-Jan-22 14:14:39

About 10 minutes walk, and yes we do visit it for lunch not so much for evening meals. If we want to eat out in the evening we tend to go further afield.
That’s a little café down by the canal that’s really nice to go to, especially when the weather is better.

Any signs of spring around where you are yet?

AGAA4 Mon 10-Jan-22 15:35:07

I have seen a few brave buds on the trees but it still is very much winter here.

Are you good at DIY or do you get an expert in.?

BBbevan Mon 10-Jan-22 15:43:53

Not a bit, but DH is.

Just got back from the dentist. A slightly traumatic clean but nothing more..

Are you afraid of the dentist or like me just think it will be all over in a while?

crazyH Mon 10-Jan-22 15:59:10

I am very, very, very scared of the Dentist. I have to make an appointment soon and the very thought is getting me all jittery.
That’s why they don’t send me an appointment- they just leave it to me to make one when I’m ready.

Do you have dentures, partial or full or implants ?

hollysteers Mon 10-Jan-22 22:46:38

None of those, but an excellent bridge fitted years ago.

Do you enjoy driving?
(I don’t, but don’t mind driving on motorways)

Mollygo Mon 10-Jan-22 22:59:13

Yes I do. It’s just as well as we have to drive miles to see most family.

Are all your summer clothes packed away or do you just keep them hanging in the wardrobe?

biglouis Tue 11-Jan-22 04:36:55

They are hanging in the wardrobe as I have plenty of space.

Have you ever looked up a long lost friend on the internet and made contact?

I made contact with a friend who emigrated to Australia in the 1960s. She and her husband now run an emu farm,

DanniRae Tue 11-Jan-22 08:57:53

I tried to make contact on "Friends Reunited" with an boy from school who I was very fond off but, sadly, his wife got in touch to say that he had died sad

Do you ever think about the boys you knew when you were at school and what could have been? The story above tells of a relationship that never really got underway - I was very young and shy at the time - but when I look back I realise what a lovely bloke he was and am sad that we never were an item. There is a little more to this but not sure it's interesting enough for posting on here?

FannyCornforth Tue 11-Jan-22 09:27:51

Oh yes please DanniRae, do tell!
That is very sad about your old friend; but I loved the story about your grandchildren- it was lovely to read.
Yes, I do think of people from the past. There is one in particular who I have been thinking of recently.

Have you ever found something and reunited it with its owner, or vice versa?
(I think that I might start a thread about this…)

DanniRae Tue 11-Jan-22 12:07:17

It's just that he and I had a lovely walk where we ended up holding hands - I was about 14 and he about 15 - and I can still recall how thrilled I was. He asked me to go out with him and I, being a well behaved girl, said I would have to ask my mum. But next day I realised how feeble this reply was and never did ask her. A few weeks later he, seeing me talking to another girl, asked me to see if she would go out with him - I now think this was a ploy to make me jealous. She said "yes" and so I had lost my chance of a date with him! But I might add that I saw them out together and he wasn't holding her hand!

BBbevan Tue 11-Jan-22 18:45:17

That is rather sadDanniRae But I think there are many on here who have someone in the past they still think of with love. I know I do.

We’re your parents easy to talk to about your teenage problems? I would never have told my mother anything
