Hello! ?

By my reckoning, this thread will see us through until we are near to C********!

SachaMac’s question was ‘if you could travel back to any time or place for one day, where / when would it be’?

I’m still mulling it over…

hollysteers Thu 27-Oct-22 20:56:26

Not looking forward to it at all.

What luxury in your life would you not be willing to give up even with the current situation? (Theatregoing and occasional meals out for me)

Mollygo Thu 27-Oct-22 18:57:13

Since we currently have several young school children as neighbours, who come round with their parents, yes I do.
I also go round and admire the displays in their gardens. Some gruesome and some very imaginative.

Are you looking forward to the clocks going back? This time of year I get up in the dark, go to work in the dark and come home in the dark, so I don’t see it makes any real difference.

HowVeryDareYou Thu 27-Oct-22 18:07:41

It was very warm last night here (Nottingham) and mild again today (although it rained a bit)

Do you buy/give sweets or treats to children on Halloween?

AGAA4 Thu 27-Oct-22 16:41:27

My MiL often served ox heart. I used to eat it but wouldn't now. I think Offaly was popular in those days.

It's been quite warm here. How is it near you?

MrsKen33 Thu 27-Oct-22 13:49:38

I give anything a go onceFanny My DD has eaten them and she says they are very nice. Medlar tart anyone .?

Laver bread is not terribly nice and My mother often served up roast and stuffed ox heart.

Anyone else?

FannyCornforth Thu 27-Oct-22 12:49:38

I had to look them up.
Like figs with cinnamon apparently.
Also known as ‘monkey bottoms’!
There are a few very nice indeed wallpapers featuring them too (the fruit not the bottoms)
Will you be using them Ken?

What’s the most unusual thing that you have ever cooked or eaten?
I’m very boring in that regard, so can’t think of anything.
Oh, hang on! Cat food.
Just curious. Didn’t taste of anything.I spat it out (I don’t eat meat)
And an ant when I was a child (heavens knows why).
It bit my tongue! ?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 27-Oct-22 12:26:41

No, I've only ever seen them on the telly, they're a bit more exotic than the usual fruit.

In fairness to MrsKen33 let's ask the same question again, please.

MrsKen33 Thu 27-Oct-22 05:54:47

Both really, though I love the feel and smell of an actual book.

My neighbour gave me sone medlars yesterday. They need ‘blething’ go over ripe, so I have put them in a basket to do so. Anyone else had experience of medlars?

Mollygo Thu 27-Oct-22 02:21:48

Mostly I don’t because. I read more on my phone or a Kindle than physical books, but I have some from various countries and a lovely metal fairy one.

Do you ever read actual books or do you read on a device?

hollysteers Thu 27-Oct-22 00:05:09

I find it easier to dress for winter, so that’s a plus, but I do feel the cold so that’s a minus.

What type of bookmark do you use? (Magnet style)

crazyH Wed 26-Oct-22 19:07:10

I love the cosiness of Winter, but I do agree, the energy cost is taking the shine off it.

AGAA4 Wed 26-Oct-22 16:24:45

I would open a cake shop and sell all the old fashioned ones like Cumberland courting cake.

Do you like winter? I used to love cold crisp days and snowy scenes but the heating costs put me off now.

MrsKen33 Wed 26-Oct-22 13:43:00

Proper art materials. Paper, inks brushes, easels etc.

Same question please

SachaMac Wed 26-Oct-22 13:26:54

On line, rarely go into a bank nowadays but would like to think I could if need be. I used to work for a bank many years ago. Most branches here are pubs or hairdressers as in most towns.

If times were different on the High Street and you were opening a shop what would it be. I would love a little haberdashers like the one we used to go in as children with the lovely wood & glass draws. Sadly not much call for one nowadays

biglouis Wed 26-Oct-22 13:11:51

No, I am not a joiner-in.

Do you bank online or use a "physical" bank?

Ive been banking online since my bank began it and before that on the phone. I have only been into a bank once in 20 years.

ginny Wed 26-Oct-22 11:46:59

I have never ordered on line.

I have been busy making decorations for a Christmas tree festival which will be held in our town.
Do you get involved in local events ?

henetha Wed 26-Oct-22 09:46:00

Whatever you like! Whatever you feel is appropriate for the yacht club. How posh is the party?

Are you still having groceries delivered, or doing click and collect? (following covid) Or have you returned to going shopping yourself?

MrsKen33 Wed 26-Oct-22 09:23:17

DH is s sticker together, and he does it well. But if a thing is shattered it goes in the bin.
Fanny’s question.
Just read ‘Intimacies’ by Katie Kitamura, for book club. Lauded as Obama’s favourite book . Dull. But finished

What shall I wear to a party at the Yacht club. !!!!!!!

Mollygo Wed 26-Oct-22 03:15:56

Give up, once reading it becomes a chore not a pleasure.

If something gets broken, do you try to glue it together, or bin it or replace it The handle broke off a special gift mug DH just dropped. He’s carefully glued it on, but I’ve secretly ordered a replacement.

FannyCornforth Wed 26-Oct-22 03:11:31

Hi Ken! ?
I’m always awake around now.
I have ‘two sleeps’, with a couple of hours awake in between.
No, if I’m not enjoying it, I stop.
My dear departed Nan was a ‘plougher on’, which always made me laugh.
She’d say, ‘I’m so glad I’ve finished that, it was the biggest load of rubbish’

What book did you find was ‘the biggest load of rubbish’?

MrsKen33 Wed 26-Oct-22 02:50:37

Awake early Fanny?

MrsKen33 Wed 26-Oct-22 02:49:38

I remember reading ‘One hundred mile walkies’ many years ago. That had laugh out loud bits in it.

Do you give up on books or plough right on to the end.?

FannyCornforth Wed 26-Oct-22 02:44:06

biglouis

Gordon Ramsay - cant stand the man. Not just the arrogance but he is a foul mouthed bully.

Which TV personality do you think has been misjudged? Maybe you see another side to them.

I think David Beckham gets a worse press than he deserves. Yes he mouthed off about not getting an honour but he does a lot for charity/sport and is a great role model. People who have achieved a lot less have been honoured.

I must say that I agree with you there re Beckham. The Quatar business is dreadful though

I don’t think that Danny Baker was being racist with the photo of the couple with the monkey.
It was a joke about parading royal babies in public.
Baker doesn’t have a racist bone is his body.

As an aside, he also wrote one of the funniest books ever.
His memoir of growing up in the East End in the 50s and 60s.

What’s a favourite funny book of yours? ?

hollysteers Tue 25-Oct-22 11:53:51

Oops, that’s right Fanny sorry and yes Ian Payne is nice ?

Back to the questions with apologies.

FannyCornforth Tue 25-Oct-22 11:37:43

Do you mean Iain Dale? ?
