Hello!👋
Welcome to the new thread 😊

Julie Walters is playing the part of me (or Helena Bonham Carter, if I’m having a very good day) and Juliette Greco is playing MrsKen.

Which actress is playing the part of you?

NotAGran55 Mon 26-Dec-22 22:47:23

*year’s

SachaMac Tue 27-Dec-22 10:22:05

I’m sure Eric Clapton will be brilliant, enjoy. I am going out for a meal locally with a group of friends then back to one of our houses for a few drinks, a quiz and to see in the New Year.

I got two new books for Christmas, one a Christmas theme so I’m going to get started on that today. Also had a voucher for Waterstones. Did you get any books or book vouchers?

henetha Tue 27-Dec-22 11:43:59

A friend gave me a couple of her old paper-backs. (I didn't mind, quite the opposite), but no vouchers or new books unfortunately.

Are you planning to read Prince Harry's book when it comes out soon? I will try not to but might have to give in!
Sheer curiosity!

Mollygo Tue 27-Dec-22 11:54:10

No, but I don’t doubt people’s versions of it’ll be in the news, on the news and on GN, MN and Twitter.

Have you any major home plans for next year? We hope to have our kitchen unit doors replaced.

biglouis Tue 27-Dec-22 12:18:11

I am having my bathroom completely refurbished as there is a leak in the heating system which involves taking the bath out and part of the floor up. So might as well do the whole job.

Same question please.

SachaMac Tue 27-Dec-22 14:34:38

I am still trying to decide whether to have a totally new kitchen in the spring or just refurbish the existing units, new doors, draw fronts worktops etc. due to the room shape and doors in and out the plan would be very much the same. Dread the upheaval either way but it is getting ready.

Are you always ready to get back to normal once Christmas is over or do you like to keep the celebrations and holiday feeling going as long as possible. I’m quite happy to get back to some normality after Boxing Day and beyond.

MrsKen33 Tue 27-Dec-22 14:40:20

I like to get back to normal. Tree and cards will be down on New Years Day.

How about you?

HowVeryDareYou Tue 27-Dec-22 15:37:48

I've taken the cards down today, will take the tree and decorations down tomorrow.

What is/was your favourite present?

Mollygo Tue 27-Dec-22 17:53:23

A bottle of Fame by Paco Rabanne. I’ve been assured that it smells good on me and I love the bottle.

Same question.

ginny Tue 27-Dec-22 18:42:46

I really can’t choose a favourite. All given with thought and love taking in my interests .

I won a Christmas hamper in a raffle.
Have you won anything this Christmas ?

MrsKen33 Tue 27-Dec-22 20:26:38

Never won anything…..Full stop

Do you believe in luck, or fate etc. ?

crazyH Tue 27-Dec-22 20:42:24

I have ordered the Spare, for my friend in Australia (as a Xmas gift) - I hope Waterstones will post it to her - I paid postage etc

crazyH Tue 27-Dec-22 20:46:25

Sorry, my question is - I’m feeling quite sluggish today and would love to hibernate till at least NYE (going to London with son and his family/ in-laws)
Are you shattered and feel “stuffed” after Xmas and Boxing Day - so much food 😩

MrsKen33 Wed 28-Dec-22 06:52:59

We have a visitor who usually lives on her own. We love her to bits but she relishes the company and we talk all day. She says she never eats much, but she does. I shall be sad when she goes home but we will have to have a rest.
Did you have people staying over Christmas?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Wed 28-Dec-22 13:39:36

I do believe in fate MrsKen33 to a certain extent.

I'm always the visitor, rather then the host at Christmas etc, as I'm in a small house which wouldn't accommodate our large family, if all were included.

Are you usually the host or the visitor?

HowVeryDareYou Wed 28-Dec-22 17:04:29

We seem to be the hosts almost all the time - although we were invited to our eldest son's today (for a cup of tea grin). Our house is bigger than his, and our other son is staying with his girlfriend (and she hasn't invited us sad).

Do you do anything on NY Eve?

Jane71 Wed 28-Dec-22 17:06:21

Probably 50;50, as we have an active social circle of friends, so always entertaining and visiting. It can become quite wearing at times.

What do miss most about growing older?

MrsKen33 Wed 28-Dec-22 17:13:56

Sleep. I can sleep in the day but not at night.

When I was young I only met one person with the same name as me. It is much more common now and can be spelled two ways. Why is it that when I sign a card or letter I invariably get a reply with my name spelled the other way.?

rubysong Thu 29-Dec-22 00:27:55

(I think we've got a bit out of sync here, so I'll answer the one about names)
I have a name with various spelling and my sis in law, who should, after 50 years know how I spell it, always chooses the other way.

The same question about what you are doing for New Year's Eve.

biglouis Thu 29-Dec-22 01:48:23

Spending it alone as usual - and by choice.

Did you ever do "first foot" New Years Eve traditions in your family?

My father used to go out above 5 minutes to 12 and then knock just after midnight. My mother used to greet him with a glass of whisky. I believe its a Scottish tradition.

MrsKen33 Thu 29-Dec-22 06:22:11

I remember some uncles doing that when I was quite young. They would bring a lump of coal. We were a mining community so very appropriate. But I think no one does it any more.

Do you have treasured family traditions ?

FannyCornforth Sat 31-Dec-22 10:29:29

None that I can think of.

What are you up to tonight?
I’ll be looking after Gracie who is absolutely petrified of the fireworks, and unfortunately some of our 🤬 neighbours are very keen on the 🤬 things.
I’ve got a little puppy grow thing which calms her down a little bit, and some Valium, which I hate giving her but does the trick where nothing else does.
I’m praying for rain

MrsKen33 Sat 31-Dec-22 11:58:32

Well it’s raining here Fanny in SW Wales so perhaps you will get your wish.
We are in this evening but at DD’s for lunch tomorrow. Just might watch a bit of Bridgeton this evening. We have only just got Netflix so a lot of catching up to do!!!!
Does anyone do a lot of streaming? We do more now than the regular tv..

Mollygo Sat 31-Dec-22 13:08:23

Yes we stream more often except for OnlyConnect/Mastermind/ University challenge night.
I quite often find things recommended on GN which I might otherwise have missed, like 3 Pines.
Do you follow up recommendations on GN?

FannyCornforth Sat 31-Dec-22 13:45:45

Hi Molly, I hope that you’re feeling much better now.

Yes. I bought a bath lift chair on the recommendation of Riverwalk. Avon eyebrow pencils on recommendation of lemongrove
Heated throws because of a thread last year.
I’m going to watch Detectorists because of a recent thread.
Loads of stuff!

Have you? Or have you recommended anything?
I recommended L’Oréal Rosey Glow moisturiser which lots of posters took up.
Also cooling spray and mini fans.
