Hello!👋
Welcome to the new thread 😊

Julie Walters is playing the part of me (or Helena Bonham Carter, if I’m having a very good day) and Juliette Greco is playing MrsKen.

Which actress is playing the part of you?

crazyH Sun 26-Mar-23 20:09:20

Same question please…

SachaMac Sun 26-Mar-23 20:25:39

I have lots of memories of my childhood, I remember moving to a brand new house in a different town in the early 1960’s, travelling there in a motorbike and sidecar. I remember starting school, my mum only took me on the first day, after that I walked there with other children from our road, sometimes we would have a threepenny bit to spend at the corner shop on the way home. I remember so much about primary school. I loved it apart from the awful school dinners & the little bottles of milk which I hated. On the first day we were given a peg with our own picture and a little tin of wax crayons . We had a lovely teacher that gave us dolly mixtures if we had done well and we would get a little silver star stuck in our books. I remember writing in our Daily news book, the teachers must have found some of the stories very amusing.

What do you remember about your first school?

henetha Mon 27-Mar-23 11:03:41

Lots of sandbags lining the corridors, world war two was on.
Being given a gasmask. Having to lie down on little mats on the floor every day even if we weren't tired.
Being smacked on the hand with a ruler for eating a sweet in class.
How kind the teachers all were.

With today's cameras and videos on our phones, what event in your life would you liked to have been able to photograph or film in the past, but didn't have the equipment.?

biglouis Mon 27-Mar-23 16:47:47

Being part of the school carnival when I was in junior school. I used to love dressing up. Also being in May processions.

Same question!

AGAA4 Mon 27-Mar-23 17:38:47

I would have liked to see the country dancing we had practiced hard for on the field at junior school. All our parents were there and it felt so good as we did it steps perfectly.

Same question again please.

I wish we had captured some of our childhood Christmases in the early 1960’s, we don’t seem to have any photos of us opening our presents on Christmas morning or any of us all sitting around the table with grandparents tucking in to Christmas lunch. They were such happy days I wish we had got some photographic memories. We only had a little Kodak camera that didn’t have a flash so it was some years before we took any photos indoors and then they were very grainy. My grandad took some cine movies of seaside holidays but I don’t know what happened to them.

Have you any cine home movies of your childhood and have you thought about having or already had them put on to DVD.

MrsKen33 Tue 28-Mar-23 04:55:31

No sadly none at all. The only camera we had was a box brownie which I was given when I passed my 11+. We have more photographs from when DH arrived on the scene as he was interested in photography.

Do you rearrange your furniture often or is it always in the same place?

FannyCornforth Tue 28-Mar-23 05:01:01

‘Morning Ken 😘
Always in the same place, the house is too small to be able to do that.

What was the last thing that you bought?
I’ve just this minute bought a watch.
I’ll show you…

MrsKen33 Tue 28-Mar-23 05:03:37

Morning Fanny

Wing back chair and an art nouveau copper log box. Bit impulsive but lovely.

Same question please.

FannyCornforth Tue 28-Mar-23 05:04:18

Here it is. I got 25% off.
I know it’s a bit extravagant, but I don’t want to miss the opportunity of a WM watch as I know some of the styles are going out of stock, and I’ve been coveting it for months

MrsKen33 Tue 28-Mar-23 05:09:03

Lovely Fanny like the colour too.

biglouis Tue 28-Mar-23 11:21:53

I dont re-arrange my furniture as I like things where they are.

Do you still have any clothes in your wardrobe from long ago?

I still have some from the 1980s with the big shoulder pads. I loved the 1980s fashions. I should probably sell them on Vinty.

AGAA4 Tue 28-Mar-23 11:51:07

I had to have a clear out when I downsized so some lovely evening dresses from the 70s had to go.

Do you remember wearing long evening dresses on nights out?

SachaMac Tue 28-Mar-23 12:34:14

Yes as a teenager we would go to dinner dances or works Christmas parties in long dresses. People don’t seem to dress up so much now.

Have you ever made/seen an outfit for yourself?
I made a navy skirt suit in sewing class at secondary school, I found it really difficult but was very proud of it. Never managed to make anything since.

ginny Tue 28-Mar-23 21:46:26

In my teens I made quite a few of my own clothes. I even knitted a dress once. Not made any clothes for myself since although otherwise I am very ‘crafty.

I have just booked a holiday just for me. Travel by train to a self catering apartment by the sea.
Have you ever done this on your own ?

biglouis Wed 29-Mar-23 10:09:31

Ive never been to a self catering appartment but have travelled all over the world on my own and independently. I always resented having to pay a single suppliment for package holidays so they were not good value for me.

Same question - ever travelled alone?

henetha Wed 29-Mar-23 11:05:40

Yes lots. Prefer it in some ways really. Various places in Europe.
And Sydney etc.

Same question

FannyCornforth Wed 29-Mar-23 11:15:58

No. Sorry - very boring!

Have you ever seen a ghost, or had a similarly spooky incident?

AGAA4 Wed 29-Mar-23 12:33:11

When we first moved into our 200 year old cottage I was alone one day as everyone else was at work or school. I was sitting quietly in the living room when I heard footsteps in the bedroom above. Someone was moving around in that room.
I knew none of the family had come home as they would have had to pass me. I went upstairs to the room but as soon as I opened the door the footsteps stopped. There was nobody there. I heard them again for the next few weeks and then they stopped and I never heard them again.
I think the ghost didn't want to share that room with my noisy, messy teenage son!

Same question please

SachaMac Wed 29-Mar-23 12:38:12

No but I was only saying the other day I would love to go on a Ghost walk.

Have you ever been to see a medium, I haven’t but a close friend of mine saw the medium that Diana and Dodi went to see many years ago, she was very good. I’m a bit wary of these things.

MrsKen33 Wed 29-Mar-23 16:08:41

Yes I have, a long time ago. She was uncannily accurate.

I have just read about a 3 year round the world cruise .£73,000 per person.
If you had the money would you contemplate it?

biglouis Thu 30-Mar-23 11:24:51

No because I dont fancy cruising. I went on a Nile cruise once and it was all cliques. God job I dont mind my own company.

How would you spend an unexpected big windfall?

I would pay privately to jump the queue and sort out some of my health problems.

SachaMac Thu 30-Mar-23 17:27:35

I’d probably take all the family on a holiday either home or abroad depending how much the windfall was.

Have you ever won anything in a competition or in a raffle other than the usual wine and chocs, or won any other kind of prize. I won a massive Easter Hamper in a raffle last year and once won a poetry competition at school but nothing much else.

AGAA4 Fri 31-Mar-23 15:45:35

I have won a prize of £5000 on premium bonds. Not usually lucky with prizes.

Do you buy Easter eggs for your family? I still do even though my GCs are getting older now.

HowVeryDareYou2 Fri 31-Mar-23 16:04:27

I buy Easter eggs for the children (2 GDs and children of both sons' girlfriends, all of school age). I buy boxes of nice chocolates for both adult sons, also their girlfriends.

Do you like the different flavoured hot cross buns? I love the chocolate ones.
