I think that LadyH wants us to collaborate, so I’ll add my thoughts.
I think that Callas died much longer ago than that, but your answer has prompted me to guess that it might be Monserat Caballe

Yes, sorry, I was looking at the date in the question above (which would still probably have been too late for Callas.) I agree with Monserrat Caballe. Great voice.
