Old Spelling, New Spelling

A conventional spelling is modified to consist of words that sound the same as the original syllables they replace, thus

FORTITUDE = FortyChewed
INSPECT = InnsPecked
DIRECT = DyeWrecked
PORCUPINE = PorkYewPine or PorkEwePine or PoorQueuePine
INQUEST = InkWest
CARICATURE = CarryCatEwer
CRUCIAL = CrewShall
CUSTARD = CussTarred
GUILTY = GillTea
HORMONE = WhoreMoan

The revised spelling should contain stand-alone words which, when concatenated, mimic (as closely as possible) the word's usual British English pronunciation.

Testicles - Tess Tickles

Odour - Oh Door

Tuesday - Choose Day (a lot of people say it as CH instead of TUES).

UHU - Yoo Hoo, or in my case Ooh Hoo.

Naturally - Natch your alley.

If you transcribe fortitude as FortyChewed, you aren't pronouncing fortitude correctly. There’s no
‘ch’ sound in it. It’s FortyTewd.

I did suggest the revised spelling should closely resemble its British English pronunciation and chewed would then sound like most Brits would say the -tude part of fortitude. I agree that an American accent would be different again.

Nautical - Gnaw Tickle

I was talking about British English, too! Forty Chewed would be very poor pronunciation,. Do you really think most British people would use that pronunciation? Well, you may be right. There’s a lot of lazy speech about. As Professor Higgins says in My Fair Lady, “Why can’t the English teach their children how to speak?”.
