Forbidden to grow vegetables?

In Oak Park, Michigan, a woman is being taken to court....for growing vegetables in her front garden. (on a gardening mailing list I'm on.)
Can't imagine this happening here - could it?

Are there some things we actually aren't allowed to grow? I seem to remember something about berberis near wheat fields, way back.

What do you bet the eejits who are objecting think a vegetable garden looks untidy?

My friend in California used to live in a new suburb that was very controlled - you had to paint your house grey and no other colour. Is that the kind of area?
I saw some lovely front gardens full of veg in Australia, one with scarecrows!
