They say it's warm!
I think it's cold.
They say that I
Am getting old.
My hair is white
My bosoms sag!
Iam becoming
An old hag!
angry

Butternut Mon 06-Feb-12 17:43:03

Never that, jeni - not with your sense of humour! smile

Oldgreymare Mon 06-Feb-12 18:29:21

The full moon has cast a lattice of shadows on the snow outside my window. So bright.
It's still v. cold and dry and now the wind is picking up again......brrrrr.
Said to be colder still tomorrow.
Hot water bottle and bed now.
Goodnight all.

jeni Tue 07-Feb-12 21:33:25

Sleep well my dear
And in your sleep
Snow will drift around your bed
Yet in those drifts so white
And deep,
The bulbs their own sweet
Secret keep.

When the sun, once more shines
The light will bring
Warmer climes
And bulbs once more
Will wake
And lovely petals shake
The dewdrops from their bright
Heads. To more delight
Your sight.

jeni Tue 07-Feb-12 21:40:54

Or
Sleep well and if you snore
The rest of us
Will pile more
Pillowson your head!

Who would have thought a month ago, when we were starting to see signs of spring that we would have such cold weather. Spring thread is most definitely on hold.

Butternut Wed 08-Feb-12 07:29:38

smile Jeni - and I did sleep, very well!

More snow.

kittylester Wed 08-Feb-12 08:16:33

I know it's not gardening but - I'm sitting up in bed with a cup of tea watching crashing waves through the window. Just what I ordered. Shame we are leaving straight after breakfast.sad

JessM Wed 08-Feb-12 08:56:21

yes well to describe this thread as gardening would not be entirely appropriate... smile
Sounds lovely kittylester

A cold February was predicted on the long term weather forecast. February is quite often the coldest month.

Oh well someone did thunk it then. It was rather a sudden change.
Our little bird population seems to have plummeted since this time last week. I think it might have been the minus 10 at the weekend...
Must go out and break ice on pond for them

Oldgreymare Wed 08-Feb-12 10:59:19

February is also the most miserable month, I'm missing my 'boys' and wanting to relive all the little happenings that are now only cherished memories. Not the joys of winter for me today! sad

JessM Wed 08-Feb-12 11:13:00

Oh how about a ((hug)) ogm.
There will be signs of spring before the month is out, honest!

Butternut Wed 08-Feb-12 11:18:21

Here's a bit of sunshine, for you ogmsunshine

supernana Wed 08-Feb-12 12:21:28

ogm It's a feeling that I know very well. Thank goodness for cherished memories. They certainly help to gladden the heart thanks

Butternut Wed 08-Feb-12 13:30:50

The snow is horizontal
The birds are fluffed to burst
Trees stand cold and silent
To see them so, it hurts
Still snowed in
Within these walls
Of garden and of house
I wonder who will hear me
When I want to shout
Oh Joys of Spring,
Come, come again soon
Or I shall be a raving loon!
smile

Seventimesfive Wed 08-Feb-12 13:42:28

Butternut Oh Dear! Keep smiling, it's got to get better soon! sunshine

bagitha Wed 08-Feb-12 13:46:24

I love loons! The wild cry of the loon is one of the best sounds in the world!

Keep cosy, butty. The joys of spring will come "when it is time" — quote from Rain by Manya Stojic. smile

I have dear friends who have a summer home on a small (by their standards) lake in Minnesota, and when we're in the States we nearly always fly up there for a quiet, peaceful few days. The loons are a major part of the wildlife, and their call, especially as the sun goes down, is haunting. And they dive, and disappear, emerging far from where they dived; you could watch and listen all day.

And at night, the only light outside is moonlight making a silver path across the lake.

Oh, I need to go back!

Zephrine Wed 08-Feb-12 14:14:51

I've just been out in my greenhouse which was lovely and warm because the sun is shining and in a nearby tree a robin was singing his head off and one of those swotty, front row of the class great tits was yelling tea-cher, tea-cher so maybe the joys of winter might be giving way to the joys of spring soon. sunshine
