are you doing this year?

I've got a small tray of Cosmos in my unheated toilet window. (gets good light and sun) Will sow the other half of the packet in a week or two. Didn't want to put all my eggs in the one basket iyswim.

Any suggestions for other flowers? Have done bizzy lizzies in the past, but there's the virus now. sad

My lemons limes and kaffir lime are currently on the only usable window ledge until the last of the frosts!

basil not a flower, but well worth growing from seed. it gets eaten outdoors.
sweetpeas maybe if you are picky about the colour or type?

Sweet peas never really work for me jess. I don't know why. I dig the hole deep and put muck in. confused I love sweet peas too.

Yes. Basil's a good idea. Would look nice and fresh and I'd get the lovely smell.

Had gorgeous sweet peas last year. Climbing up the trellis between me and twitcher neighbour. She enjoyed them as well. Gary, my gardner, has saved some seed and is going to try that. He really is good. He most likes growing veg though. I restrict him to small patch down the bottom. We both agree the pool he dug is a huge success! 4lots of frogspawn last night.

Yeah. You wait till the frogs are sitting on your back doorstep jeni, waiting to hop in as soon as you open the door! That's what we get. (glass kitchen door so they get attracted by the light) grin

They have to climb up 12steep steps to get to mine. That's why I don't go in the garden unless someone is with me. You know me and falls!

That won't stop 'em.

Try soaking your sweet pea seeds overnight and put a little nick in the coating (away from the shooty bit) before you sow them. I've known people who have started them off on damp kitchen paper and then sowed them. Dwarf dahlias are easy to grow on windowsills, or zinnias - both give a lot of colour and just seem to last forever in the border. I had both through to late October last year and will grow them again this year.

Sorry snooty bit.

jeni Sat 03-Mar-12 14:35:29

Spell checker insists it is snooty not shooty!

wotsamashedupjingl Sat 03-Mar-12 14:39:42

Yes! Zinnias! Would love to grow this one

The snooty bit is the bit where it sprouts (ring up Monty Don!)
