Yellow birch leaves; first autumn tinting.

Noticed them on the tree outside my bedroom window yesterday when I got back from Derbyshire. Similar timing to last year.

fluffy how old are you?

Sigh

I only ask because I can vaguely remember feeling like that.

Started clearing the garden yesterday, and decided to plant up a rockery at the back of the pond. I love the autumn as it sort of feels the end of one year and time to plan for the next.

fluff exactly!!

I LOVE autumn - best time of year - rosehips, funny shaped squashes and gourds to pile up in the kitchen, lighting the fire, lighting candles, cobnuts, making crumbles from picked blackberries, starting to wear socks again - buying new cosy socks, making chutney from tomatoes that didn't go red - all the anticipation of bonfire night etc to come - its all gorgeous. We are lucky to have seasons.

Butter Lovely words. smile Best wishes for a speedy recovery to dear MrButty

Bags, they should be OK in the West of Scotland - my grandmother had them in her garden in Ayrshire, not so very far south of where you live. Good old Gulf Stream. I can't speak for the roe deer, however.

Ella, Anno and B - I wrote this post early, but it didn't get posted! I'm sorry - must have been half-asleep....... so here it is again. Many thanks for your flowers and wishes - Mr. B. is still poorly.

I wonder if they would grow here, and whether roe deer would eat them....

Jay just flew to the top of an ash tree. Binoculars out fastish. It had a nut/acorn/rosehip/somethingorother in its beak. Classic picture smile

They are lovely, especially at this time of year. I was given them with roots on, so have put them where they can spread to their hearts content ( well, almost......)!

JO4 Sat 29-Sept-12 22:19:08

grin

We used to have chinese lanterns in the garden but they seem to have disappeared recently. (I know I did keep digging them out because they spread so much). I miss them now. Always had a bunch hanging upside down in the living room at this time of the year.

I passed on your concern J - and it gave him a big smile .......... and me too!

JO4 Sat 29-Sept-12 19:20:41

And I hope he doesn't get hay fever.

Sorry!

butty smile, hope he's feeling better soon.

annodomini Sat 29-Sept-12 18:50:57

Hope Mt Butty is getting better. I would give him flowers if you hadn't done it already, so you can have them instead flowers.

Ella46 Sat 29-Sept-12 18:46:19

Aahh Butty I hope they cheered him up flowers

Butternut Sat 29-Sept-12 18:40:58

Large windswept yellow daisies
Some crimson red vine
Gifted orange chinese lanterns
Left bunched outside the kitchen door
Little rosehips red and wrinkled, some fat and pale apricot
A bit of old man's beard
All together in an earthenware jug
On the chest in the bedroom
For a poorly husband.

Much warmer here as well, unfortunately have too many chores to catch up on to be able to go out but am definitely beginning to 'glow'. Just had to sit down to catch up with GN - what a shame smile

annodomini Wed 26-Sept-12 15:30:31

Not so cold today, as I found when I went out in my warm coat and found myself overheating.

soop Wed 26-Sept-12 15:07:39

Blue skies over Kintyre. A skittish teal green sea. Mr soop cutting the grass. Rory paid a fleeting visit - ate his brunch - wandered away into the wilderness without as much as a by your leave. grin.

It had actually stopped raining when I got up today,but......it's started again now sad

Early morning light on the hills was just gorgeous this morning, and the NE wind has softened a bit so I can open the storm doors at the front. The bats haven't been out for several nights now, though we did see one on the way home from DD's school show last night.

JO4 Tue 25-Sept-12 18:35:57

Nope! We had one short shower this morning. I actually got a bit hot at one point this afternoon.

I think our area might have its own little micro climate. grin

annodomini Tue 25-Sept-12 18:24:03

What sun? The rain that started the night before last has tracked back and continued all day today. [umbrella emoticon]

jeni Tue 25-Sept-12 18:19:48

envy I was stuck in a freezing cold tribunal all day!

Butternut Tue 25-Sept-12 18:01:33

I had a lovely feet-up on the garden bench in the sun this afternoon. Topped up the sun tan.
