A bungalow near my house was a cannabis factory. I found a load of cannabis plants dumped nearby; told the police but they weren't at all interested [about the plants, that is; not the bungalow..they already knew about that!].

We have a large greenhouse, 70' x 30' and we had a visit about ten years ago because I was selling plants and someone made a jokey remark about our place being off the beaten track and who would know what we were growing?? It was overheard and the police arrived that afternoon. They thought it was a huge laugh, had a cup of tea and a scone and filled their car boot with plants. I'm sure they spent a lot more than the person who tipped them off. grin

Yes - the police detect it by the amount of heat being emitted through the roofs.

Isn't that the stuff grown in buildings under bright lights? or have I got that wrong?

The stuff grown in this country is particularly strong and is known for the pyschological damage it causes, - known as "skunk" therefore not to be recommended!

Its a very attractive plant. You can buy hemp seed from wholefood shops to add to bread and provide essential oils etc. They seem to come with a warning about not planting it!

Someone told me that it was quite common to grow cannabis just as an ornamental plant in the 19th century. You can believe it when you see the picture!

And now we know why anno grin

So now we know how the old advertising slogan came into being: 'Trill makes budgies bounce with health.'

JessM My grandfather did a similar thing. After his canary died he threw the remaining birdseed into his garden with the result that he had a number of flourishing cannabis plants. Lots of other odd plants too, but I'm not sure what they were.

This made me blush. In the long distant past I had quite good results germinating a wide variety of seeds. blush

And very pretty too!

I remember once in Scotland visiting my mother's friends with her and goin ground their garden and recognising a lovely bush of cannabis....I didn't say anything, my mum wouldn't know it....I suspect the friends did know it....a good laugh when I got back home.

No, I don't!

What a hoot! What a shame to destroy such a lovely plant grin.

Nice little news story. I once planted bird food and got a surprise cannabis plant on the windowsill. But these folk evidently have green fingers:
