Help I've got Worms

No worms are definitely a very good thing. The day we have no worms is the day we all die. No worms, no soil, no soil, no food. Think they are a sign of healthy soil.

Now.....I really don't want to be a prophet of doom .....but......we had a lawn layed/laid (never sure which is right) - beautiful lush green turf - then, like you, the worm casts started coming until our lawn was a total sea of mud which sadly never recovered, the grass all sort of disappeared! Had yet another load of turf put down and then called in one of those lawn care companies and told them their remit was to keep it looking just like it was then!! So far so good - just had the spring treatment done and in spite of all the rain this winter the worms seem to have stayed where they belong!

Those worms are doing a brilliant job of keeping your soil aerated and healthy - cherish them (and just brush the worm mounds you really have to).

Hedgehogs or badgers then!

Oh chance would be a fine thing phoenix. I live right on the seaside and sadly the rats with wings seagulls keep all the "nice birds" at bay

I agree that worms are good where you have planting but they look awful in the grass phoenix . The problem with trying to brush the casts off is that the lawn is so wet at the minute and trying to brush them off results in mud patches.

Yes tanith I guess I will have to wait for a dry day and have another go.

Will this eventually go or am I stuck with it forever? The lawn is about a year old now.

No idea what you can do about it. However, I do know that an earthworm's greatest dilemma is what do when it's raining heavily. If it stays underground and water accumulates, it will drown. If it clambers out of its underground hole, ultraviolet will kill it. How does a worm know which is up and which is down?

gillybob worms in the lawn are a good sign they show the soil is healthy and aerated beneath, just wait till the casts are dry in the wind then brush them with a stiff brush.. they really do your lawn good.

Surely worms are good? Aren't you just supposed to brush the worms casts gently over the grass?

Be thankful that they are aerating your lawn otherwise it would be a garden pond!
