You can also treat the the compost with Armillatox a coal tar product. You can buy this product in odd places but it is a niche product.

I wonder if the weevils don't like really wet conditions, as the privet hedge and lysimachia have escaped so far this year after all that rain.

I have previously rescued heucheras by taking the side shoots off the rootless plant and replanting them, which I've done with this one - who knows, I may get six!

The B*** Vine weevil grubs chew away the roots and the tops of your Heuchera plants fall off. I fight a constant battle with them.

I am not sure why they are worse in pots than in the soil though, because I would have thought that the vine weevils would still lay their eggs near to the base of the Heucheras that are in the soil. I have lost lots of lovely Heucheras to these revolting creatures.

For some reason heucheras in pots attract slugs and vine weevils but seem to leave mine alone if they grow in the garden.

irregular sounds like vine weevil - regular semi circular as we have is probably leaf cutter bee. Our privet it very attractive with these edges to leaves.

There is a very good organic cure for these pests, but it is not instant, and needs to be used at different times of the year. (forget the name but you can find it on the web). When we had them in pots I turned the pots out, cleaned the roots of the plants thoroughly by washing them, and then replanted. I also very much enjoyed putting the little grubs which I searched out, out in the open for the birds to enjoy - cruel! If they are in the garden, of course that is a different matter.
