My stunning Weeping Silver Birch Tree, is looking 'Autumnal' i.e. brown leaves. I called in a Tree Surgeon, he told me due to Honey Fungus the tree is dying and must be chopped down. I am devastated, I am also concerned about the rest of my garden. Does any one out there have experience of this horrible Fungus.

There is some good advice here anneey

I don't have any experience of Honey Fungus I'm glad to say. Hope you manage to get it sorted.

When the tree is gone, have a bonfire on the spot. That should kill off lots of the spores. It really depends on how close other trees and shrubs are, you will have to keep an eye on them.

Be very careful what you plant in it's place. I'm afraid it will limit you - ask a good garden centre for advise.

I've just had a light bulb moment. We now have a hornbeam growing quite happily where honey fungus had developed, the tree is strong and healthy but the honeysuckle growing on the other side of the fence has suddenly died and gone brown in the last couple of weeks. It's only just dawned on me why!! [thick face]

Thank you Nfk I shall give Hornbeam some serious thought. Sorry about your Honeysuckle. Gardening is such a pleasure, but also a Battle.
