Purple Acer in a pot

Take out the branches right down to where they leave the stem that still has purple leaves on it. The whole twig needs to come off. Do it very neatly as close to the stem as you can.

I have an Acer plant with green leaves coming thru started last year.
I take out the leaves but there seems to be more this year than last.
Am I supposed to take out the branch where the leaves are growing, it's just they are mixed in with the purple leaves so not sure what to do for the best.
Anyone have ideas
