I have been looking at roses and the Peter Beales site is really useful with really good information about the different varieties.

there is a "read more" link which gives you the full details.

A pity more sites are not as good as this.

Smaller local nurseries are more likely to be knowledgeable than staff at the big garden centres, although the range of plants at the latter may well be greater.

I find garden centre staff usually don't have a clue about unusual plants just the ones they stock.

If you know the name of the plant then the RHS is the probably your best bet.

Which species are you talking about?

RHS give very good advice and help with identification.

Which species LD? I usually find online advice useful. Or visit your garden centre and speak with one of the gardeners. Or plantsmen/women at NT. and very likely someone on here could advise you if you would care to name your species.

I'm interested in a particular species and have had differing advice.

Where's your first online port of call?
