I am building a pit greenhouse, they keep the warmth in a bit during the winter.

Thank you all. Things seem to have moved on and my construction engineer (OH) is currently looking at building a box nearer to the house with covers and soil warming cables. A case of watch this space perhaps.

My DH has just put solar lighting in his shed, he says it was easy, but he's clever! I'm not sure how you'd run heating from it. He has a paraffin heater in the greenhouse, quite cheap to buy and run.

I think Machine Mart also think them.

Calor gas also do small greenhouse heaters

I was going to say there are some small cheapish paraffin heaters on Amazon.

MrA says no. A car battery lasts only 40 hours and the short answer in engineering terms is that it would be bu**ered very quickly.
He says you need a paraffin heater.

May I pick the collective brains for inspiration. We have a 12 by 8 greenhouse unheated and no way of getting power to it. The budget is EXTREMELY tight. Is there anyway we can run a small heater off a car battery? Solar is too complicated and expensive. Any engineers out there?
