As suggested I thought I'd start this! smile. The season is upon us! Any good ideas etc.
So what is everyone doing in their garden, on their balcony or in the window box?

gillybob, My lawn is back to its former glory, thanks to wonderful advice

I have to ask which advice you followed? My spots from moss programme are still black.

grin

The slugs shouldn't be able to get those Alima.
which reminds me, I bought some straw to put around my strawberries so I should get out there and do it NOW!

Alima Sun 28-May-17 10:31:00

Look, the first strawberry flower! I'm so excited!

Baglet1 Sun 28-May-17 10:05:47

I bought three scabious plants about a month ago to fill a gap in my summer perennials border. They've been brilliant. Still going strong.

My lawn is back to its former glory, thanks to wonderful advice , my little lean-to hospital/nursery is busy and my Alliums are bobbing around just fine .

It's not a perfect garden by any means, this bloody iPad.

rosesarered Sat 27-May-17 23:09:22

Haha Jalima no not part of the NGS, it would make us too anxious. It's not a perfect garden by any means, we just grow the things we like and what will do well in our soil.

We planted the cotinus six years ago, we left it alone for two years, then pruned to get a bushier shape( yes, they can look straggly otherwise.)I understand that you can keep them smaller by constant pruning, but did think by now it would be about 12 feet.Too hopeful and impatient maybe! grin

Liaise Sat 27-May-17 21:56:01

Our cotinus is less than 2 feet tall. We have had it for three years. We moved it this year to try to get it to grow a bit.

J52 Sat 27-May-17 19:48:18

Roses I think you have to give Cotinus some time to mature. We have a large one in our front garden. It is more straggling than your and is about 10ft high.
It looks like it's been there a long time. The previous owners were not Gardeners, so it could be 20 years at least.

Jalima1108 Sat 27-May-17 18:37:34

The coleus looked very sad at the garden centre today (and not reduced in price either) so I decided on a new pot, saucer and an astilbe to go in it in the shady spot.

Jalima1108 Sat 27-May-17 18:35:18

Are you part of the NGS roses?
You could find that you have an influx of Gransnetters this year if you are, all nipping little cuttings admiring your garden.

Have just promised Mr President that he can have some Miracle Gro tomorrow - it's blowing a gale out there this afternoon!

rosesarered Sat 27-May-17 15:54:46

Does anyone have a cotinus ( Grace) and could post a pic of it?
We planted ours as a specimen and have pruned it to the shape we want and are now more or less letting it do it's own thing but it won't seem to get past eight feet high and am sure it should be higher than that.
Including a pic of ours.

rosesarered Sat 27-May-17 15:51:21

They certainly should! grin or be disbanded if they don't.

Jalima1108 Sat 27-May-17 13:01:00

The Wargrave Gardeners' Club has a FB page rosesarered - they should know smile

rosesarered Sat 27-May-17 10:22:58

Thanks Shysal ( that's a lovely geranium you have!) but it' pink, and am sure it is a Wargrave Pink, as that name rings a definite bell ( maybe I will look for the white one now.)
Greyduster we have had orange geums in the past, but your red one looks more impressive.

Greyduster Sat 27-May-17 10:18:54

Mrs Bradshaw is a geum. Very easy perennial to grow and a long flowering period. She was flagging a bit in the heat when I took the photo but after some rain this morning, she looks rather fine. Geums come in various shades of red, orange and yellow.

shysal Sat 27-May-17 10:17:48

I wasn't sure whether yours was pale pink or white, Roses. I found this white one which seems so have a similar habit. It is Sanguineum album.

Jalima1108 Sat 27-May-17 09:45:35

Perhaps I should try to find one - my DF went to school in Wargrave smile

rosesarered Sat 27-May-17 09:41:42

Ah, now, Wargrave Pink does ring a bell, thanks Jalima smile

Jalima1108 Sat 27-May-17 09:39:56

Is it a Wargrave Pink?

I think Rozanne is purple and supposedly flowers all summer through (why doesn't mine?).

shysal Sat 27-May-17 09:35:53

I am sure it isn't a Rozanne. The leaves are wrong and they are not in flower yet in our area, although like gilly's they won't be long. I don't know which variety it is though, there are so many!

gillybob Sat 27-May-17 09:25:07

Could it be a Rosanne ? Or is that a deeper purple? Mine is full of buds so anticipate flowers within the next week or so.

rosesarered Sat 27-May-17 08:27:31

Planted this geranium two yeras ago and can't remember the name, anyone know?

rosesarered Sat 27-May-17 08:26:08

I want a Mrs Bradshaw now!
