I don't know if chickenlegs still looks on this forum, but I thought I'd resurrect this thread to show you mine.
I did try growing them from seed many years ago, without much luck, but bought a potful from a garden centre about 5 or 6 years ago, and planted them against my south-facing fence. Every year since then, they have re-appeared from self-sown seeds, with no help from me, so I enjoy them each year.
They seem to germinate around July, when the weather is pleasantly warm, and then grow apace. I think they need quite warm conditions to germinate, and maybe starting them early is not the answer.
I do have to be careful not to pull them up in mistake for the dreaded bindweed (of which I have plenty!), but the foliage is different and slightly hairy.
So maybe the answer is to buy a potful when they appear in garden centres, and hope Mother Nature takes over, or sprinkle seeds in the appropriate place later in the year.
I love Morning Glory, it reminds me of some very happy holidays I spent with my late husband in Deia, Mallorca for many years, where it grows with gay abandon every where.
Because of wet weather this year, the foliage is quite extravagant, hiding many of the flowers.

I meant to answer this before - don't cut them back yet, especially if the only leaves are at the top of this stem. They may need some small sticks for support for the time being.

They will harden up if you put them outside during the day and bring them in at night as it seems a bit chilly at the moment.

Thank you both. I will let them climb.

I had same problem last year but they turned out fine. Lots of flowers but all at the top!

DH grew morning glory last year and they were very leggy. He planted them in a pot against a wall just as they were. They were fine and flowered beautifully. He says do not cut them back!

I'd love some advice about my seedlings. I think I left them too long in the window-ledge propagator and they are very pale and flimsy, while climbing to 12in already, with the main stem waving in the air looking for more height.

Should I cut this main stem and hope they branch out a bit below?
