Can anyone name this plant.

Mine are just beginning to open now. But this is the alpine one in my wall garden. I think it's very pretty, though not a prolific flowerer at the moment. This is its second year.

One aquilegia is in full bloom, same type/colour. The darker colours are just in bud.

Costa del Southend on sea some of my California Poppies are in bloom as well.

I thought it is very early for Aquilegia. Are you down south? They seed everywhere and are hard to dig out. Which might or might not be what you want.

Invasive is the word. The roots seem to go down into the soil for ever.

The apparent change of colour are through x-fertilisation, so seeds are hybrids..

Spreads like a weed and change colour when they feel like it

Definitely aquilegia and ours aren't ready by far yet they are mauve when they do come out

Ours aren't out yet either and we are well south. You are lucky. I find that they change from year to year and mix with each other so sometimes you get something different.

Our aquilegia are nowhere near flowering here in the frozen north. Ours are pink, yellow and blue when they come out.

Also agree aquilegia. Mine are not quite out yet, but they do make a good show. They do self-seed to an alarming degree, though. I also have an alpine version on my rockery which is flowering at the moment.

That's int4resting as we have always had lots of aquilegia that have flowered much later in the summer. Are there 2 types?
