I thought of laurel too - they grow fast.

Try a Japanese laurel. We had one in a previous garden. It will withstand almost anything you can throw at it. The bonus is that it looks good during the winter. Here it is

something variegated with white splodges! How about a variegated holly.

Pieris, flame of the forest? Pretty hardy, not sure how poo proof it is though! grin

Guess who misread the OP as 'House Martin poo proof pants blush'

White mandevillas with 3-4 five foot canes tied together at the top?

5'tall?
What about one of the lavateras, they grow fast and can grow tall. Or a buddleia?

Berberis can be pretty, red leaves, flowers and berries. It is easily pruned to keep it small.
The birds might like the berries!

Sorry, should have said that we'd like something about 5' tall. I hadn't thought of heather for between shrubs though J52, thank you.

Heather?

Bet that made you look!!

We have two house martins nests under two different eaves. One is above a path so DH jetwashes it clean a few times a year. But, one is right over the middle of a bed about 10 feet long and 2 feet wide.

In it we have a wegielia (sp?) a Red Robin, a winter box and a shrub with brown leaves - I've forgotten what it's called.blush Between the shrubs we have small hebes and some sedums.

Currently there is a gap directly under the nest and we would like to plant something that will withstand the poo and/or jet washing it to get it clean. Preferably some winter colour/flowers would be good.

Can anyone think of anything - please!!
