Wisteria

Mine was a smaller version of that one till the frost got it last week. Now it looks like the Somme. However this morning a little tiny shoot about an inch long has appeared so maybe there is hope. If I knew how I would put a photo on here but I really don't want to depress you.

I haven't really got anywhere to train a Wisteria. Saw this 'umbrella' in a catalogue the other day, seems like a good idea.

I think our wisteria was planted back in the 1950s and it is not in a sunny situation. But I might try running along the front of the shed, that would look good .It is a rather boring pale lilac that you see everywhere. Near the school there is a white one.

I actually watered the garden last evening. It's like dust out there - and cold. We've had a brisk NE wind for a couple of weeks now. Hopefully it explains why my white wisteria is dripping buds which are showing little signs of opening. It has meant though that the magnolia next to it has hung on to its flowers for longer than ever. Not all bad.

According to GQT some wisteria just don't like flowering. I planted one in a supposedly perect position/soil and after six years of rampant growth and following pruning instructions to the letter, not a flower. So out it came. Doing the same with one in a similar position and it's been smothered in flowers since planting. Easiest to start again.

I love wisteria I only have horrible ivy that I hack back my friend has a glorious wisteria up and all over her front of houses

How lovely maybe now it's flowered it will do so every year they are spectacular if only for a short while. I have one in a pot that has just flowered for the first time in 12 years .

Perhaps you scared it into flowering? Probably thought you'd hack it down altogether next time so better put on a show! ?

We have one up the front of our house and i hack it back mercilessly each year to stop it enveloping the house, windows and roof, with tendrils. Every year it is smothered with flowers (like now).

One of "H's ladies" that he gardens for has a wisteria that runs the 25-30 ft lenght of her side boundry fence in her front garden. It is smothered in flowers and thrives on total neglect. H has worked for her for 3 summers and has given it a light prune once.
