I use lighter fuel for all oily marks and it has never failed me. Soak the affected part of the fabric and rub in with a cloth working from the outside of the stain to the centre, then wash thoroughly.
A friend swears by hand sanitizing gel. It is usually alcohol based to makes sense. It worked on the remnants of a sun-dried tomato pesto stain on my carpet.

Masses of Original Fairy Liquid - the green stuff. Scrub well in and leave for half a day. Might need to do it twice.
I only buy it to get rid of oil stains.

I've used Swarfega on my daughter's pretty dress when she got some sort of black oil on it. Works wonders. I recently bought some really cheap from Aldi.

When DD2, aged not quite two and wearing a frilly yellow dress that my mum had just bought her, sat on a newly tarmacced path at the park, my mum told me to use lard to get the tar out. It worked too! I wonder how many times she, or her mother, had had to get tar out of clothes?!

I need to know how you got the cat to co operate with being Swafegared.........my cats were very strict on who did their abultions and it wasn't me.

Margarine works for tar so should work for oil/ grease. I use fairy liquid like ffinochio

If lard or margarine is used don't you end up with a grease stain instead? There was some sort of oil on some of the patio slabs, noticed it yesterday. Quick blast with the pressure washer and gone!

After you have tried these method and are going to wash the jeans use very hot water - ever boiling water on the area og the stain as that opens the threads of the material and allows the detergent to penetrate and work better

Talculm powder...and or Ace, then wash it straight away.

Try really hot household soda solution - leave to soak. then wash as normal.

Oh heaven's, another thing I love the smell of (on another thread I mentioned Germolene) Swarfega! That lovely, green gunky stuff!

Buy a new pair.Use stained ones for gardening.

Blimey. We had to wash our first cat when he brushed against a fence that the neighbour had painted with creosote. He wasn't happy and I wouldn't want to repeat the experience. Nearly scarred for life.

Rub neat washing up liquid into the stain. Leave for an hour or so then wash as hot as possible.

When I was younger, I remember reading in a "young women's" magazine about what to do if you spilt sun tan lotion on your espadrilles or other cloth shoes - they suggested embroidering a little flower over the stain as there was no way to remove it.

Those were the days, when a 25-year-old knew how to embroider!
