Edamame beans are young soya beans, they cannot be eaten raw. In Japan they boil them in the pods and serve them with salt. When I've had them, I made sure they were well cooked. They don't keep well so the frozen ones are best.

I bought some frozen ones last week. I had never heard of them. The instructions for cooking just said boil for however many minutes. I put them in a casserole with beef and other veg.

On the allotment ideas month by month, it says that edamame beans may be eaten raw. I thought that they had to be boiled or they could be dangerous.
