I think 4344 is a kind of cotoneaster.

Yes, I agree about the cotoneaster - it's a large shrub. The flowers that precede those berries are insignificant-looking, but bees simply love them, so it's a good plant for wildlife.

The tree looks like a bay that gone rampant. Do the leaves smell?

Looking at the leaves on image 1, I'll suggest a type of Viburnum.

The berries/leaves could be a Whitebeam tree.

I agree the berries and leaf look like a variety of cotoneaster. For the other, it does look similar to bay, but I have one in my garden that similar in looks and habit but is not bay, but a member of olive family. It grows very fast and has to have a good prune every year to keep in check.

Cotoneaster- I have several in garden- they grow like wildfire but can be pruned back hard.

Definitely a cotoneaster, if it's in an odd place it could well be bird sown!

Thanks everyone. It might well be a bay gone rampant, as everything in this garden has been allowed to go rampant, but no, the leaves do not smell at all. As there is some kind of fruit, there must have been flowers, but they must be very insignificant, as I haven't noticed them, either last year or this.

The other is probably a cotoneaster, and no, it has been planted sometime around the time the house was built in 1927, as it is in what doubtless was intended to be a shrubbery. No-one seem to have done anything except mow the grass for years.
