Any ideas? I looked it up on google and they suggested: dropping a fence on it, using a flamethrower and various other extraordinary ideas! I am sure there must be a better way!

Import some slugs, although I am sure it will come up again next year.
Is it ugly or in the way?
I love hosts.

How about a nail through the stem? I'm sure I've read that somewhere.

I hate this plant - we look out on it from our living room and before it has been up for 10 seconds it is covered in slug holes. I don't even like them when they are unslugged and pristine.

I am told that there are those who love them and I have offered it on freecycle to anyone who is prepared to dig it up!!!

I haven't heard of hostas being difficult to dig up but then they struggle a bit in our dry soil so I've never had that problem.

If it's a large one you need someone who is strong enough to dig a large area around it - deep enough to be able to lift out the whole plant. Offering it on freecycle is a good idea.

Failing that there are two other options.....Treating it with a systemic weedkiller or waiting for it to die back and covering the area with a concrete slab (you could place a large pot on top)

I think hostas are lovely if you can keep the slugs off them.

I have two plants that I have earmarked for this space and am dying to get them in!

Send it to me!

Well - would you believe it - someone on freecycle wants it and is prepared to come and dig it up!!!

Oh that's excellent news!

I'm not surprised luckygirl, lots of people like them!

Result!!

I'd never have thought they were that hard to get rid of. Now if you're talking bamboo, that's different.
