I planted some Crocus Anustifolius last autumn and I'm delighted with them. They're a beautiful deep chrome yellow with brown stripes. Think they were about £3.25 for 10 corms.

I prefer February to be just snowdrop time and March to be daffodils time. And however many mauve or purple crocus bulbs I plant to bridge the snowdrops to daffs gap all I ever seem to get is egg-yolk yellow.

We’ve a south facing garden bed in Norfolk sheltered by a thick hedge and it’s sporting aconites, yellow crocus, snowdrops and purple iris reticulata - but no daffs. The little mini ones are shooting and about three inches up but the big ones aren’t sticking their heads up at all yet.

Oh, and a silly mini fuschia covered in mini flowers and leaves which hasn’t yet realised its winter.

I think my garden is probably quite sheltered but the bottom of the garden where I have stored them, is possibly a frost hollow where all the cold air sinks down the slope towards the bottom fence.
I am not going out now with my wellies and warm coat to do any scientific measuring.

I suspect the Dutch ones might be "forced" or just a different variety. The cut ones are probably polytunnel reared and I don't care.
I just love them at this time of year and I hope some hard working growers are making some money out of it.

When all my garden daffs finished last year I stood the pots at the bottom of my garden out of the way. They are growing away well now but whether they will flower again or not I do not know.

I've got some snowdrops out and some of the crocuses that are in pots. A few of the daffodils are just poking their heads above the soil but no sign of any leaves or stalks yet. I'm in NW England and it's rained relentlessly here for weeks forever so I'm wondering if they're water logged.

I bought some at the weekend, they were tight buds but now coming out and looking lovely.

I had to look at some pictures to find out the difference (and I'm still not sure). I think the traditional English ones are smaller - the ones that inspired Wordsworth!

I think mine are English and they are well up and in bud, but I hope they'll hang on a bit longer, perhaps the cold weather forecast for this week will stop them flowering just yet.
