Gardening corner 2018 season!???

Ditto with us today Cherry a really mild sunny day, just right for clearing up and pottering.
We need to plant about five new perennials but are holding off until after Easter.
Still no daffs showing, but crocus and hellebores look great.

Spring has sprung!
Wonderful warm sunny day.
Mainly just tidying up and the lawns first cut.
It is now a warm sunny evening. The birds are still singing.
The loudest call is the blackbirrd with his 'Georgy porgy'.

The Easter Weather forecast is a worry. I think our local wildlife may have been fooled with todays lovely warm spring weather.

Wait , I bet it starts to sprout -once it does then you can cut it back to healthy buds. Perhaps fleece the new growth if frost is threatened to save it from a double whammy, although tbh mine always recover.

The snow has seemed to kill my clematis off will it get new leaves sprout or should I cut it back Anyone know ?

Let me be a warning to all you enthusiastic gardeners after a winter off. About 2-3 weeks ago out I went full of enthusiasm to cut back etc. I completely did my back in and still tottering, and in a lot of pain. So take it easy!! Can’t bend at all so DH is doing stuff under instruction.

Started feeding the roses and shrubs.

Just brought a bit of the garden into the kitchen?

Completely repaired my wildlife pond now,.full of frogspawn ? the grandchildren love watching them develop...now to get stuck into the garden..first a cuppa whilst I sit and enjoy the beautiful Tete a tetes,primroses, snowdrops etc..and watch the small birds enjoying the feeders and then taking a quick dip..

You have nothing to lose by trying. Last year my GS brought me back some tulip bulbs from Holland well out of season. He was so anxious for me to plant them that I did, and they sprouted but didn’t flower. This year they are showing through the soil, so maybe we will have some flowers.

Advice please.

As I said in my previous post I have been unwell for a while so garden has suffered from a lot of neglect. I have just opened a cupboard and found the daffodil bulbs that I had intended to plant beginning to sprout. Is is worth trying to plant them out (maybe in pots as garden so wet) or should I just discard them altogether?

My resolution to stop spending on the garden has flown out of the window. I have just ordered a Flowering Cherry and some lavender.

As I've had trees cut back and some out-of-control shrubs removed, I now have space to plant some perennials and roses. But the bed where I have cleared this space is absolutely sodden with all the rain we've had over the winter, topped up with the recent snowfall. I hope there will be a decent dry spell so that I and my garden helper can get on with the work of creating colour in my garden. The PTA of a local primary school takes orders for annuals which always give me a good display in pots.

I went to a NT garden this afternoon and in the glass house was a sales table with an Albizia Julibrissin plant for £5!
I’d never heard of it before. It’s a bit like a mimosa, but has pink flowers, late summer. Apparently it grows into quite a big tree, but you can keep it in a pot in a courtyard. Which is what I intend to do. It can withstand -20, but it’s going into the greenhouse until the frost is over.
Has anyone else got one? Any tips on keeping it healthy?

Its sooo cold we still have bits of snow in our garden.
I had a gift of pansies, yet to be planted also some primulas.
Bulbs and seeds to be planted
Grandsons have seeds that they wish to plant with a little help.
They are having a little plastic greenhouse for Easter?

Perhaps they know what's coming at Easter ...

My largeish pond is usually heaving with amorous frogs by this time of year. To date I've seen about half a dozen and we have one clump of frogspawn. I'm just hoping that they've been waiting for better weather...

Just fed the soft fruit.

Have potted up some alpine dianthus to grow on for my gravel garden

Also potted up some plug plants for summer pots. They’ve gone up!! Last year I think they were something like £7 for 8 this year £10!! That is a huge rise.

Waiting for the ground to warm up to plant out stuff, like a rose, clematis etc.

I know, I’m so pleased to see the frogspawn. We’ve had it previous years - but oddly, last year, there wasn’t any.

Great to see the frogspawn. The frogs in my pond have been enjoying themselves. Not yet seen the results, I think it’s in the depths!
I’d almost forgotten the warm spring days watching the tadpoles!
