Just thought I’d start a new thread for this year. What’s everyone up to in the garden?
Just had a happy hour or two tidying up, sowing a few seeds and listening to the birds sing.

This is for Allium fans yes I am daft. I have been admiring the Alliums I bought at last years GW show at the NEC and are now blooming

I have a found myself patting and holding the heads of the flowering my Allium flowers when I walk past. They are lovely to feel with the petals their shape.

Lucky to have alliums that you didn’t plant! My perennial Stock is flowering it’s heart out, it’ll go on all summer and smells devine.

Hope everyone’s enjoying the lovely weather, sudden down pours are at least watering the garden. My seedlings are a bit behind, but the rhododendrons and Azaleas have been magnificent. How everyone else’s garden doing?

Things are certainly galloping away at the moment. My clematis struggled to make it to the top of the fence last year, but is already there and still travelling this year. agapanthus and day lilies have put in a strong appearance too.

Erythroniums are lovely. I planted some bulbs last Autumn and had forgotten them. Nice surprise when they popped up.

merlotgran Sun 22-Apr-18 17:47:11

My erythroniums haven't flowered this year sad

Nelliemoser Sun 22-Apr-18 17:42:20

I have managed to find new shoots on my Fuschia. I thought the beast from the east had finished it off.

I bought this pretty plant on a U3A garden trip last spring. It was remaindered.
Mine has now flowered and it's lovely. so I went out and bought two more plants half price on the search and rescue table.

I have also found that a pot of dahlia tubers someone gave me have actually survived. I have never grown them before.
Why do I get so excited about such things.

Mapleleaf Sun 22-Apr-18 16:56:43

I'm pleased to report that I've spotted green shoots of recovery on the fuschias I thought I'd lost. ?

BBbevan Sun 22-Apr-18 06:44:36

I hate this Kindle. It has a mind of its own !!!

I meant a cormorant ( Bird)

lemongrove Sat 21-Apr-18 21:03:48

Delphiniums half up today, poor confused things. After a hot couple of days, so much leaf and flower out that shouldn’t be as yet.
Not complaining really though, as sitting reading in the sun has been such a treat.?

lemongrove Sat 21-Apr-18 21:00:31

What’s a corporate BB is it a Welsh thing? grin

BBbevan Sat 21-Apr-18 20:45:15

I must proof read
Mazes of tulips, bluebells and primroses ?

BBbevan Sat 21-Apr-18 20:43:16

Blackthorn not Blackburn. We are in Wales

BBbevan Sat 21-Apr-18 20:42:13

In the last few days everything has exploded here. Blackburn is white with blossom. Trees and hedges greening rapidly. Masses of tulips, blueberry, and primaries in the garden The rhododendrons are flowering. It is just beautiful. And we have just come home from DDs to find a corporate sitting on the back lawn.

Greyduster Sat 21-Apr-18 19:48:54

They are here!! The dreaded lily beetles have started appearing on my snakes head fritillaries and I am going to have to start a constant patrol to keep them from the disgusting mess the make when they lay their eggs. When all my other lilies start appearing I'll be up to my neck in the little blighters. I'm told there is no remedy but to pick them off by hand. Anyone know any different?

J52 Sat 21-Apr-18 19:11:31

Loads of things are sprouting, blooming and popping their heads above ground. Yay!
I’ve bought a white mop head hydrangea to put in a large pot and brighten up a dark corner. Tomatoes in 12 inch pots in the greenhouse.
Lunch was the first BBQ of the year with the family.

merlotgran Sat 21-Apr-18 11:20:17

Up early, second load of washing on the line, greenhouse dampened down, one raised bed made ready for last year's strawberry runners, pots watered, DH has mowed the lawns.

I'm off to my favourite perennial nursery for some more drought tolerant plants.

DH is off to the pub!

Sallyann1 Sat 21-Apr-18 06:35:33

Lots of tulips out here now - these double ones are lovely - very blowsy! And lots of pretty Fritillaries ?: I can hardly walk today! Too much bending yesterday!

Esspee Sat 21-Apr-18 06:09:46

I lost a few much loved plants this winter, wallflowers and hebes mainly. Have been cutting back the hebes as there seems to be life at the base (showing green when I scrape the bark) so will keep my fingers crossed.
The little wildlife pond is full of frogspawn and looking so pretty with marsh marigolds in full bloom but the grass is full of moss, the very worst I have seen it. So guess what my next job is?

BBbevan Sat 21-Apr-18 05:47:30

Finished the strawberry cage. Nice neat rows with not a celandine in sight. Will I ever be able to stand up straight though. ?
Day off today as going shopping with DD. I am trying to find proper hazel bean poles as my runner beans are growing apace . We used bamboo last year but they collapsed.

J52 Fri 20-Apr-18 07:58:56

Another beautiful day. I’m off to see brand new GD with a flower name. Then to the plant nursery.
Perfection, in my mind.? ??
Have a lovely day in the garden everyone.

Morrison's had their Aubriteia on offer yesterday, 70p per plant, a saving of 30p i bought 6 and they look so beautiful near some red tulips I have that are in bloom. Hopefully i willget a couple of years out of them too before they need replacing.

Bought new lawnmower on Tuesday and cut grass on Wednesday. The lawn looks such a mess as it has a lot of weed grass spread into it after me not being able to look after it in the autumn. Still first cut done and I need to start raking and feeding it to see if it can look better. Trouble is the ground is now so uneven after the bad weather - compacted etc it's will take a lot of work but I d like nice green lawn. Am going to keep using the garden fork as I go up and down to help it along. Daff bulbs perking up in the pots too. smile
