Hoses

OldMeg we have been having serious discussions about hoses as ours does 'surprise' watering and needs to be replaced. Our gardener/friend is very keen to instigate a system similar to that which you describe. He has only just embarked on his scheme and I am already bewildered. The hoses, clips, connections and sprayers, which he has purchased on our behalf and been repaid with our money, are a rainbow of colours and there does not seem to be a sensible system although I am assured that there is. I think I have just retired from watering!

I have an X hose, the thing I like about it is not only does it shrink to a small size but it is so light compared to the very heavy hose I had before.
I purchased it about 18 months ago and no leaks.
There are less expensive versions of this product which may or may not be as good as this product.

We had one of those expanding crinkled hoses, it was fine until DH left it out and the mice nibbled it. ??

Don’t talk to me about hoses!

The DH, in his wisdom, has set up a series of taps and hoses so we can water the front garden or the back garden, or the very back garden or top up the pond. A master hose is connected to the main tap, situated behind an especially prickly holly bush then that particular hose has to be identified and turned on by twisting a connector button which diverts the flow into it.

I spend too much time running to the end of each hose in turn and squinting into the thingamy at the end to see if I’ve made all the right connections to, for example, water the veg patch. Invariably I haven’t and have to go back and twiddle yet another knob.

Then of course I end up wet as I think this is the wrong one again when in fact I have it right and spray myself in the face.

I hate hoses ?????

I'd make sure the hose 'developed' some leaks

Does the end fly off an X hose the way it does on an ordinary one? I’ve had enough of our hose. It’s two joined together and comes apart easily at the linking gubbins at the slightest excuse, and the end attachment often slides off too and I get water shot yo my arm. I’ve looked at theses non kink expanding hoses but DH (much as I love him) insists they’re a waste of money and what’s wrong with the one we have! I just wish ours would wear up and get leaks!

I do love watering the garden as a rule. It’s relaxing and de-stressing - until it comes from together, or tangles, or gets snagged!

what timing this post is , after years of struggling with an old hose on a reel , the winding on was a nightmare,with getting kinks in it and getting muddy I decided to buy a flex you hose, it arrived yesterday and didn't it just rain all day,
I used it today , so much easier, it wasn't expensive and I hope it doesn't leak

I think the Xhose is the original. I have tried various ones, like everything in life each one comes with its own drawback or advantage. I went to b and q and just bought the branded one on offer, so far all good!

Mine developed leaks within weeks.
It was still useable, you just had to be careful where you stood!!

Had mine over 4 years. touch wood

Had the X Hose for two years, no leaks as yet.

How does the X hose differ from the other expandable hoses? - all 3 of those (one was a replacement) have developed leaks very quickly.

I am now trying a coiled hose - supposed never to get tangled!! - hmmm!

It’s light, and packs itself away in a plant pot afterwards.

Same here, an X Hose, it’s brilliant.

I have an X hose, it came with a hose head that twists to give different water jets, spray etc.
It is stored tidily away in a small box that hangs from outdoor tap.
Stretches to 75 feet.
There are longer or shorter versions available.

I have the Tricoflex hose. It's expensive yet durable. Have it for 7 years now, and no sign of leaks whatsoever.

Haha that should be hose of course but the alternative would be good?

We bought a reinforced house from B & Q it doesn't kink and no leaks at all.
