Border Geraniums

Your garden sounds like my kind of space, Stansgran. I love profusion and ground cover, hence no weeding!

We have Patricia and WP and a white rather straggly one I forget the name. Johnson's blue is everywhere ,a bit of a thug but keeps the weeds at bay and hack back after the first flowering. Also get a nice autumn colour. I have alstroemerias by the shedload and acanthus but I like bold leaves and things which take over whereas DH likes order and symmetry. We have a garden which is a rule unto itself.

In a previous house we had a pink geranium. Been there years very useful and resilient must have been WP. I have just hacked back a rose bush that was just coming in to flower but was all over the place and had mildew. Do you people do this sometimes?. So now I have space to plant some good perennials. But first have offered Strulch. 6 bags. I am in love with this stuff. It really makes life much easier. Am not connected in any way to the company. It keeps the weeds down and deters the snails. Planting is such a challenge. Getting plants to blend with each other and always having something to look at.
At the moment I have deep pink near bright orange.

Near where we are staying now there is one garden with several different kinds of these small geraniums. Various shades of pink and white, even blue. They look more like wild flowers to me, cranesbill, but very pretty. If I see her I'll ask her where she got them.

Many thanks for the help. Just been to the 3 nearby garden centres and very disappointed with the poor choice. I got some Goldfinch conifers for height, Erysimum, Heuchera in various colours and some geraniums. None of them had the suggested varieties so bought all I could find including some Rozanne, a red-leaved lilac coloured one and a pink with white edged leaves. I have forgotten the names already!
This is the first time she has had a flower bed, since they no longer have a dog and the boys have grown out of kicking balls around. She is likely to neglect it so trying to keep it labour free for her, with plenty of perennials, evergreens and ground cover. I shall get some bulbs later in the year.

I've got Cappuccino, J%" and it isn't very vigorous unlike my pink one, which I think is Wargraves Pink, but might not be, or my Johnsons Blue.

Geraniun"Magnificum" has flowered in my garden right up until Christmas over the last couple of years. It is mid mauve. It has the "Chelsea Chop" around August.
It may be because we are in the mild SE.

I love psilestemon because it is such a vibrant colour, and quite tall.

I've a pink geranium which may, or may not, be Wargraves Pink*. It's coming into flower now and will go on relentlessly until autumn.

(*A professional gardener told me that it's misidentified so much that it's now difficult to tell which is a 'real' Wargraves Pink' and which is its close lookalike)

I have a lovely little one called Cappuccino, it’s flowering now and has bronze leaves with little pink flowers.
Splash is a lovely white one with splashes of purple.
Anne Foulkard is another favourite, purple with a black centre.
If you give them the Chelsea Chop after flowering they spring back and flower again.

I love New Guinea Impatiens which are related I think. They flower right through to October.
