Dispite the weather all our baskets are doing ok

Just wondering if its because DGS no longer requires nappies.

Grandma used up her spares by placing them in the bottom of all her baskets before adding the compost.grin

Thanks ladies. I've done all of the above. I think I will have to give them the usual speech: you either shape up or ship out. No messing. Still, it's a good excuse to go to the garden centre, again. grin

Watering in the morning is better and never water when the sun is on them; if you do then avoid the leaves, just pour the water on the soil.

I think that DH may have over-watered some of my shrubs in pots - they are standing in large saucers and there is water in the saucers.
One looked rather sad, but perhaps it is just not absorbing the water.

Panache if it’s the same system as our town a council (?) water wagon goes round in the early morning and waters them. Some, are on an automatic system but you can’t see the little tubes......until you accidentally stand under one that’s become disconnected and you get watered instead.

Our fuchsias in the ground are doing well, our geraniums in window box, and urn have blooms fit to burst.

Whilst in our towns the hanging baskets have not only doubled in size this past couple of hot weeks but are an absolute delightful mass of colour ......... really very beautiful.
A mixture of petunias, begonias, geraniums, and fuchsias............perhaps I should ask for their secrets in keeping them so pristine, fresh with the colours so deeply rich and vibrant.

My hanging baskets are sorry for themselves too Maw they have been watered pretty much as usual but still look quite sad compared with normal. My fuchsias seem to be doing okay (touch wood) but they are planted in the ground rather than in pots.

Also I wonder is anyone else being plagued with earwigs?

When compost dries out it is very hard to re wet as any water you pour on runs right through the pot. Stand the pot in a bucket of water which allows it to be completely submerged and keep the whole rootball under water until all the bubbles come to the surface (ideally overnight). Another trick is to add a tiny bit of washing up liquid to the water as this acts as a wetting solution.

Have moved my pots into the shade. Even with water twice a day it's too hot.

Yep. Hanging baskets very sorry for themselves and herbs in pots are frizzling up.

Is anyone else having this 'problem' despite them receiving all the water they need. Especially affected are fuchsias.
