Challenges.Got carried away

This afternoon I did some tidying up whilst looking after my lovely DGD.A beautiful day and she loves helping grandma in the garden.However I set out to cut back my peonies and got a bit carried away and chopped back a couple of hellebores.Now I realise that late winter /early spring is the time to do it.Does anyone know how forgiving they are and if we have a cold snap will that finish them off?

Heck.How did that happen.Meant to say Hellebores in the title.Don't know where challenges came from !

Hellebores send up flower spikes from their base, around January, so you should be ok.

The leaves and flowers of hellebores are on separate stems so they should be fine but if we have a very cold winter you might need to mulch them with straw or bark to provide the protection that the leaves would have given.

Ok thanks.I have another couple of newer less established ones I didn't touch.Fingers crossed these will survive, but I will much.I see them from my kitchen window and they are so cheerful I would be sad if I lost them.
