Open Days

We didnt do any catering but other people in the village did.

We opened ours a couple of years ago and had a great time. We fussed about getting the garden ready but actually it was unnecessary. The only adverse comment we got was someone said 'I've never liked geums'.

We will probably do it again next year.

We opened our garden in aid of the local hospice a number of times.
We have a local open gardens scheme with around 60 open gardens.
The plus side is it makes you pull your finger out and get the garden done! You do meet some lovely people and it’s all for a good cause.
Our visitors were always lovely apart from the young mum who lay her toddler on a garden table and changed a dirty nappy as people were eating!!
We did cream teas so I made 350 scones and numerous cakes and biscuits for each of the 2 Sunday’s , we had a team of friends who helped, it was fun but exhausting!!
Sadly we stopped due to a committee member saying something nasty.
We made around £1400 each year just in our garden alone.
So really for us the downside was the organising committee and their small mindedness.
I would do it and rope a friend or two in to help.

Haven't done one myself but have been to a few in my time, It will be a lot of work, but obviously they think yours is good enough to participate. Do you work a lot in the garden? If you could get some friends to help you out, particularly on the day, with teas and coffees and cake, but I find that most of us go for the gardens to get some ideas, I do anyway. If you think it will be too much then just decline, nothing worth it if you are going to stress yourself about it, just go to view other ones. Good luck.
