Decking again!

I had a chap in to clean and stain pour vast area of decking last summer, but new patches of mould etc. have now appeared. I have googled it and found various different methods for getting rid of this, but they all involve thoroughly rinsing the decking afterwards. I cannot do this without hosing the residue onto the flower beds, some of which lie below the decking. I cannot think that the bleach/soda crystals etc used to clean the decking will do the plants much good!

Any wise words to offer?

We got rid of the decking and had a patio laid. Never regretted it!

Not possible here - difficult to explain but the whole of the outside of our sprawling bungalow at the back is all decking (on sort of pillars) and beneath it the ground drops suddenly; so it is the only flat area around the bungalow to step out onto and a patio would simply not be feasible.

This is why the flower beds are below the level of the decking and would get drenched in bleach if you tried to hose it off the decking.

It says in this link that you can pressure wash them clean although that could take some doing I think.
Perhaps if someone can pressure wash them clean they could be then painted with an anti-mildew finish?

When we had decking it was pressure washed every spring and a clear anti slip coat painted on. It seemed to be the only way to keep moss and algae away.

I was ironing yesterday and by mistake had QVC on, there was an amazing gadget on there that just used high pressure water to clear moss and algae! Trouble is I have no idea what it was calledgrin

I just use water to pressure wash my decking anything else is surplus to requirements, it looks as good as n once done. If you haven't got a pressure washer you could use a hose and a stiff broom but you'd be better off buying a pressure washer or borrowing one.
