Moss on lawn

Dig it up.

Use a lawn rake to take as much off as possible and then reseed no need to dig it up once it dies it comes off easily. Just don’t compost it, dispose of it.

To avoid blackened lawns in future years why not use a product which kills and digests the moss and feeds the grass, with no need for scarifying? I thought all this wasn't possible but it actually works! I have used it for a couple of years now and can thoroughly recommend it. I first watched the great results when a neighbour used it, as I didn't want to waste my money.
My ex-husband did very little work in our home or garden, but he did insist on treating and blackening the lawns which I looked after the rest of the year. Grr!

I love the moss in the lawn ..

I think you're meant to rake it up when it blackens. Moss is supposed to in fashion, believe it or not! If a lawn is just a 'monoculture' - one species of grass - it's not environmentally friendly according to Carol Klein.
At least it's green - that's what I say when I look at my buttercups, violets and ajuga which insist on coming up in my lawn!

I think our gardener uses a thing to poke holes in the lawn to let air in or something.

I quite liked moss when we had a 'lawn.'
At least it kept the dandelions etc in check.

I usually just leave it on, it soon rots and incorporates itself into the soil

I also like moss on the lawn..really tactile...I agree with Monty Don...he said unless it's a bowling green or such....as long as its green and good to use.. playing, picnics etc..just enjoy it

We gave up. Dig it up and put in ground cover shrubs, put down membrane and bark chippings. Best thing ever.

My husband used to rate moss up and I'd use it to line my hanging baskets it worked a treat.
