I rarely water my lawn but someone mentioned the other day that you should water lawns once a week to help with weed control.

What? After all the rain we had yesterday? I don't even water mine during the hot weather. Water is precious and I am sure the lawn will survive - if not then tough!

Never.

We have never watered our lawn, not even last year when it was brown and parched. It's lush and green this year. Nuff said, surely.

I thought ours would turn into a frozen lake the other evening (Storm Miguel)!

I live in Scotland. I need say no more.

Certainly not.

We don’t water our lawn; our water is metered. The grass recovers eventually even after it has been quite crispy. I don’t mind a few dandelions growing through here and there. Bees like them and so do my grandson’s Guinea pigs!

we water ours but then where we live water is never in short supply .

I never water it and am trying to encourage some 'weeds' for the bees in an area of lawn, as are my neighbours.

Only ever water fruit and veg and, occasionally, newly planted trees and shrubs

No, its waste of water and unnecessary. Our gardner says 'Mow the lawn every 2-3 days on a medium cut, and leave the clippings on the lawn when its dry to act as a mulch'.
Seems to work for us.

Not on days like today ☔️☔️☔️☔️☔️☔️☔️☔️☔️?

Why would you want ‘weed’ control? Let the wildflowers flower! 5 daisies, 2 dandelions and 6 buttercups provide enough food for one bee for one day. Plantlife had a ‘No Mow May’ campaign last month. What’s not to like! Also close mowing dries out your lawn quicker than anything.

I feed the lawn once a year with Miracle Grow so it gets a quick drink then. Otherwise, I don’t water it.

I don't water the lawn. It does get wet if I am watering plants in borders but that is it . I will not water our grass.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Fri 24-May-19 16:47:43

I never ever water the lawn as it will recover when it rains, it can get as yellow as it likes. I water the sunny flower border with watering cans, but that's all.

Niobe Fri 24-May-19 16:42:20

As a rule , no but we have just completed an extension and all the building materials lying on the grass left it very patchy. Our builder would store waste materials on it too until there was enough to fill a skip because if a skip is not filled at once all the chancers appear at midnight to fill it with their own rubbish !
We reseeded it and we do water the new grass. Once is long enough to be cut a few times we will stop watering.

No. Plenty of natural wetness most of the year so I leave it to nature. After last summer's drought there were 3" wide cracks across the lawn which disappeared by autumn after a good dose of rain.

NO never- Alan Titchmarsh says grass will always recover and you scorch it if you water it when its very hot. They water the golf greens though. A certain amount is allowed to be taken from the river which runs through it but closely monitored by the Environment Agency.

We have never watered the lawns we use the water butts for the water to give the baskets and tubs a well needed water when necessary.

3dognight Fri 24-May-19 15:09:18

Perhaps just water it if you have new turf laid, or it has just been seeded as previously suggested.

I would say grass is tough and always seems to bounce back.

nanaK54 Fri 24-May-19 15:02:36

Never have and never will, I would consider that a dreadful waste of water

Nonnie Fri 24-May-19 12:12:23

Yes, it will recover but will have more weeds. If you have just seeded parts of it they will need to be kept moist of won't germinate.
