I can't remember what I did with my Geums last year but I'm sure I got a second flowering.Do I cut them right down to the leaves or just dead head by pulling spent flowers off ?Also how brutal should I be with the hardy geraniums that have flopped over.I am tempted to take the shears to them. Thanks if anyone can remind me.

That's what I do with both of them!

I cut geum (flipping iPad wants to change the name to germ!). stems down as far as a little leaf and as if by magic more flowers appear. Hardy geraniums thrive on hair cuts, or they have so far. If I can’t kill them they are truly indestructible. grin.

Great thanks. Will head on out now as it's a lovely evening. The sooner I give them the chop the quicker I will get some more lovely flowers!

We bought some new geums at a local plant fair in April. Cumbria Cartwheels and Cumbria Cherrytart. They are beautiful.
