I didn’t know how easy it was to root cuttings from carnations till I saw it on Gardener’s world. Might be better to take some cuttings now, leave the rest of the straggly mess till the spring and take more cuttings then, as they will root more easily then. I’d be wary of cutting it right back at this time of year but maybe others will advise.

I would do the latter, make lots of new plants for next year.

I have one of these and i grew it from a small piece kept from a bouquet. It has grown and grown and is starting to look a mess if i am honest. Once it has finished flowering do i just cut it right back to ground level and hope it will re emerge next year and can i use the off cuts to try and start more new plants?
