This was a small wee thing in my garden a few weeks ago. I let it be as I’m bad at remembering what I've planted and where. It’s now grown considerably and I have a strong suspicion I've been tending a weed! Has anyone better ideas before I hoik it out?

As I remember a triffid is 6foot tall with long, poison squirting fronds on the top.

Also it can walk. However a long time since I read the book So They may be much smaller now.hmm

Could it be a self sown acanthus?

Could well be a self sewn acanthus. Which, of course, has 'Triffid' as it's other name.

Dig it out. If you think you can.

I have been trying to get rid of one for years now. I think it is impossible. And they have nothing to recommend them. Ugly things.

Acanthus spinosus, otherwise known as bears breeches!
Looks identical to one in a garden up the road.

Why does the mention of a Triffid remind me of this?

Maw by the looks of it I may well need one of those to help with removing it! shock
