Can anyone tell me what this is? It's in my brother's garden in amongst jasmine and passion flowers.

No leaves?
It might be the remains of a crocosmia - they're dying back now.

Freesia.

Compare it with a cerise Salvia microphylla on google images and see what you think.

It is tiny so not crocosmia. It's not a freesia either, I dont think.

The leaves are on the woody stem in the photo but I will photograph the an actual leaf later. The flowers are like tiny snap dragons.

Salvia could be it. Is there a climber or has it just been allowed to run riot?

Auntieflo Thu 26-Sep-19 12:26:27

I thought it might be a Salvia. Are the leaves 'pungent'?
A bit like Sage, only more so.

Meant to post a picture of mine.
Here you go.

I am sure it is a Salvia. If so it will smell of Sage.
I asked the same question on here a year or two ago and took some cuttings from a neighbour's plant. I now have the results dotted here and there in my garden, they are long flowering and make a nice splash of colour. Check out the other colours too - Hot Lips is a good one.

Nannyxthree Thu 26-Sep-19 12:43:29

Salvia is my suggestion too.

I've got hot lips in a pot! This has climbed though!

shysal Thu 26-Sep-19 15:54:24

My shocking pink cuttings are clambering through other plants so sort of climbing too.

Thank you all. Now to find a space for one!
