Annuals as cut flowers, and update on gardening jobs!

I've just received my Creeping Phlox plug plants from T&M, a bit earlier than expected.
There are 60 of them in pink, red and white strip, blue, and lilac. All in good nick, so I've just spent the evening potting them up. In a day or two's time I'll put them into the conservatory which has no heat.
Then outside for a short while.
They are on the way to a raised bed, that I hope they will spread and fill.
I've never grown them before, but I am looking forward to the colour and scent in the garden!

Next I will plant some seeds, probably Cosmos, which I also haven't grown before, but I want something reliable for cutting for the house.

Anyone advise annuals for that purpose?

The year is skipping along!

Amelanchier just starting to flower here smile and a few bluebells at the end of the garden. Also lots of lovely bright blue Chionodoxa

Lovey photos. Keep them coming. So cheerful.

Just been out into the garden and I’m so excited there are buds on my Auriculars. All from two plants given to me a couple of years ago.

Thanks for posting the photos vegansrock
Muscari are such an intense blue aren't they?
I love your pond!

Planted the remaining lilies and cut up more plastic bottles to cover sweet peas

Some colour in the early spring garden.

Good idea J52 I'm fishing around the back of the drinks cupboard as we speak!
Thanks for that smile

They look lovely too Lisagran It's nice to see such a pure white for a change.

Cleared an overgrown area which wasn't on the agenda today. I found a few packets of Lilies I bought from B&Q that I bought in their sell off section. I'd forgotten all about them and now some of them have blue mould on. So I've taken the best ones and planted them directly into the garden.
I'm hoping to cut them for the house, if they survive my miss treatment!

Namsnanny you could make cloches for tour sweet peas by cutting the bottoms out of plastic bottles and putting them over a few plants at a time.
It would protect them from frost and slugs.

These hyacinths in a pot outside smell amazing!

Namsnanny Tue 24-Mar-20 18:27:40

Well, in trying to keep occupied, I've rather jumped the gun, and planted my Sweet Pea plugs outside.
Just caught the weather forecast, and it's likely going to get colder in the next few days.
Also I may have given the slugs an unexpected feast!

I've put some gravel around the plants and will throw some bubble wrap or the like over them, IF I remember!

I love the end result but I'm really a c**p gardener.....too slapdash! smile

Still, these are testing times, and I just wanted to work outside until I was tired.
I hoped I would sleep better tonight, if only from exhaustion!

I don't want to spend another night tossing and turning.

But I think I've gone overboard now though, I'm aching rather. blush.

PS I should have written WE, not I.
Nothing would get done around here, without DH!

That’s exactly where they’re going, but I wanted them nearer the house for the first year si could enjoy them. Cunningly they’re in a plastic pot put inside a more decorative planter.

Those anemones would do well in a woodland setting

Whitewavemark2 Mon 23-Mar-20 19:26:51

Yes they are in the border. I’m going to nemotiode them tomorrow?

Got to rethink the hosta as well. It never works and they always end up like lace. So may put them in pots, but pots make hard work having to water all the time. They are in a tiny little “woodland area” I’ve got some digitalis to replace them.

J52 Mon 23-Mar-20 17:52:54

I intend to relocate the anemones into the garden beds when they’re over.

Namsnanny Mon 23-Mar-20 17:36:16

ww2 ... were the delfiniums in the boarder? In which case I suppose the nematodes were watered close to them?

They do look really healthy and a eye popping blue in your photo! The colour Rothco chased all his life.

Namsnanny Mon 23-Mar-20 17:29:58

J52 ...splendid anemones, will they stay on that pot permanently?

Namsnanny Mon 23-Mar-20 17:28:22

It does shysal ...once my head is into one job, another follows automatically, and I've forgotten the world temporarilysmile

Just given the lawn its first cut over the last two days.
The mower seemed as if it was giving up the ghost, but just about finished the job! At least it will look tidied if the weather changes and we cant go outside!

Namsnanny Mon 23-Mar-20 17:22:16

lisagran gorgeous close up of the fritillaries! You've made a good job of showing off the lovely markings!

shysal Mon 23-Mar-20 11:43:39

Lovely photos all! I feel so much more relaxed now that we are having some sunshine, gardening charges the batteries.

J52 Mon 23-Mar-20 10:22:47

Forgot to post my picture. It’s surprisingly busy on house arrest!

Whitewavemark2 Sun 22-Mar-20 18:20:53

I think fritillary is gorgeous.

Done nothing in the garden today dont where the time has gone.

Lisagran Sun 22-Mar-20 18:12:34

The fritillaries I have in a pot in the garden are just appearing - so pretty!

I also put in another batch of Gladioli yesterday, but the ground was very wet and sticky. My new long handled bulb planter worked well. I think my eyes were bigger than my belly when I bought the Gladioli, I am running out of space to put them in groups in my cottage garden(ish) bed. I have added some Hollyhock and Foxglove plants too, as the self-sown seedlings that were coming on over winter have all disappeared.
I ordered just 3 blue poppy plants from Ideal World TV channel, but the order was cancelled and refunded due to 'unforseen circumstances'. However, the plants arrived yesterday with an invoice for £0.00! I have emailed customer services.
Also due to arrive from T&M in the next few weeks are plug plants of Nicotiana, Tidal Wave Petunias, large flowered and normal flowered Fuchsias, Buzy Lizzies and some pots of narrow leaved Agapanthus. I had a good show in planters on my patio last year (see pics), so am hoping for a profusion again.

My typing is pants!!

Whitewavemark2 Sat 21-Mar-20 12:24:07

mamsnanny I used nematocides and it always works for my Delphi’s although not so good for the host as. I’m rethinking them this year

Photo of last years Delphi’s.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 21-Mar-20 12:20:42

Arnt there some gorgeous photos?

Just come in tbh as it is a very unpleasant wind but the sun behind glass is delightful.

Just put in the second lot of gladioli for picking. Spent the time tying in the clematises and have sheared back the winter flowering one that keeps the bumbles going all winter.
