I've just received my Creeping Phlox plug plants from T&M, a bit earlier than expected.
There are 60 of them in pink, red and white strip, blue, and lilac. All in good nick, so I've just spent the evening potting them up. In a day or two's time I'll put them into the conservatory which has no heat.
Then outside for a short while.
They are on the way to a raised bed, that I hope they will spread and fill.
I've never grown them before, but I am looking forward to the colour and scent in the garden!

Next I will plant some seeds, probably Cosmos, which I also haven't grown before, but I want something reliable for cutting for the house.

Anyone advise annuals for that purpose?

The year is skipping along!

Ooo dark and dangerous, sounds interesting Wwavemark2

Not me for the Datura, it has a strong scent doesn't it? Love plants with a scent.
Maybe I'll try it next year.

Such a lovely idea to buy a plant in memory of your Mum.
My condolences Wwavemark2
It's looking strong and healthy too.

lemongrove …. What a lovely display of Rock Roses. I didn't realise they got so big.
I did order plug plants in white from T&M but although I've been waiting since the beginning of March they haven't arrived. Bit cross actually as I've sent emails with no replies!!

You've taken a lovely view of that boarder smile

Poppies and iris lovely combination.

Bloomin’ hot here but they say it is cooling off on Wednesday which is a shame I love the heat.

I only have one pot of beddding plants, chose dark combination this year.

Who asked me about the datura? How is yours doing? Mine is looking fine now and growing apace.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 01-Jun-20 15:04:25

This is Fond Memories, which I bought after mum died this year.

Namsnanny Mon 01-Jun-20 15:01:08

Very hot and sunny!
Still have some bearded Iris. If they like where they are they really give a good show. Californian poppies have come on and like similar conditions, so are a good companion plant I think.
Oriental poppies with Dutch Iris behind, and a yellow version of Californian poppy.
Then a closer view of Dutch Iris and c.poppy

Hanging baskets went up a few days ago. Just as well I couldn't cope with the watering! Now the drip system can do it smile

Good oh!

Namsnanny Sat 30-May-20 22:27:39

Oooeer! better check the others out a bit quick!

Namsnanny Sat 30-May-20 22:26:31

Wwavemark2 … you little gem!! You may have found it. I've looked it up on David Austin's site, and apart from not mentioning the bronze new growth, it sounds very likely this is it.
It especially mentions it's weak growth (needs nurturing) which I have found to be true.
Almost as if it misses my MIL's delicate touch, because it was vigorous under her care.
I think I will buy one, if it is the same, and the original dies I'll have a replacement.
It wont have the same memories attached to it though.
I am ridiculously excited now blush
Thanks Wwavemark2 that's cheered a bit of a dismal day up!

Is your red rose Darcey Bussell Namsnanny?

Whitewavemark2 Sat 30-May-20 21:09:53

Not the Epereur then as it is only small.

How about Capitaine Basroger? Medium fragrance and 6x3 so quite big?

Namsnanny Sat 30-May-20 21:05:39

No Wwmark2 it's not a climber. When it was at it's best in my MIL garden (which btw, it already was old and she inherited it from the previous owner) it grew very bushy and tall. But not a climber.
The leaves are a very handsome shiny green as they mature.

I'm thinking of trying to grow a cutting of it, but to be honest it doesn't have that many shoots coming off.
I'm not quite at the intensive care stage with it, but one wrong move and I feel it will give up the ghost. shock

Whitewavemark2 Sat 30-May-20 21:05:01

Google Empereur du Maroc.

Thats a bush rose with very strong perfume

lemongrove Sat 30-May-20 21:03:30

I can spend ages sniffing flowers ? and for roses they aren’t much good without a scent, even if only a delicate one.
You could send a pic of your rose to the David Austin website?
They should know...or the RHS site?

lemongrove Sat 30-May-20 20:59:01

The orange poppies don’t last long, but by deadheading they throw up tons of buds, so we usually have them flowering all the Summer into Autumn. The best ground over plants we have are the helianthemums ( unsure of spelling) they really do spread quickly and flower continuously.

Namsnanny Sat 30-May-20 20:57:40

Lemongrove … Isnt it just! I never grow bored of looking at the formation of it, and the colour. Such a velvety rich red, AND it does have such a strong rose scent.
I think I'm in love!!

Whitewavemark2 Sat 30-May-20 20:56:24

It is as lemon says truly lovely.

I’ll give it a go

Is it a climber? How much fragrance?

Namsnanny Sat 30-May-20 20:53:22

PS ….I don't suppose anyone would know the name of my red rose?
Bronzy new leaves, very thorny, never covered in flowers, just a few at a time, but could be flowering from Feb/March to August/Sept.

lemongrove Sat 30-May-20 20:52:02

Thanks Lisa I shall look that name up, I have never seen them before ( or heard of them!)
Namsnanny we have the orange poppies all over the garden, they self seed and we also collect seed and scatter it, they are very hardy. The honeysuckle was planted next to the trellis six years ago, so not that old, in the scheme of things.
Your red rose with no name ? is truly lovely.

Namsnanny Sat 30-May-20 20:46:16

Honeysuckle is one of my most favourite plants. The scent is delicious.
I have little routes around the neighbourhood that I take at different times of the year, just to see certain plants in other peoples gardens.
There is a Honeysuckle growing through a tree of around 15ft+ high. It is a glorious sight with purple pink and yellow tubular flowers.
The scent billowing up and down the street is such a pleasure.

Another climber I try not to miss in my area, is a purple blue Wisteria, which I'm told (because I was cheeky enough to knock on the front door of the owner, and complemented them on it!) is over 100 years old.
It's so beautiful I don't have the words to describe it properly.
On this one the racemes are around 1ft or more long, and new buds are purple which fade to blue, then whiteish as they age. Again the scent is overpowering.
Of course I've missed it for this year as they flowered when we couldn't go out and about.

Anyway, back to our gardens, and this is the Red Rose with No Name that I posted earlier on. I've just put another photo up to try to show it's true colour. Although it does look a bit flat now!

Lemongrove … I love the orange poppy next to the purple/brown Cordyline (is it?). The foxgloves too.

That Honeysuckle looks so healthy, is it very old?

I don't know the 3rd plant but I think Lisagran might be on the right track.

Wwmark2 … Lady Diana looks very unusual, the flower resembles a cyclamen only larger to me!

Puck looks content …….. for now!

Lisagran Sat 30-May-20 17:36:46

Ha, ha, you read my mind, Namsnanny re a grateful recipient! I’ve put it in a pot for now.......

Lots of wild honeysuckle out here now - lovely smell in the evening

Namsnanny Sat 30-May-20 15:12:27

Yes roasting is the word today!

MrNams bought some turf to fill in the patches left from laying a path across the lawn, (his job at the beginning of CV) but my oh my, he hasn't chosen a very good time to do it!
I've put some shading over it and water it regularly, but the patch is smack bang in the middle. just where it gets the sun for at least 3/4 of the day!! He swears it'll be ok.
Perhaps we should have a bet on it, as was a bit brown when he laid it, so the odds are with me I think! smile

Lovely shots of the garden pots Lisagran smile
Can you find a spot for your new rose do you think? Or do you have a grateful recipient in mind (after a suitable passage of time, of course!) to re gift it?

Lisagran Sat 30-May-20 13:41:02

Gorgeous roses and clematis Whitewavemark2. Yes, clippings from Weigela Namsnanny

Roasting hot here ???

Lisagran Sat 30-May-20 13:28:38

Are they Sisyrinchium lemongrove?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 29-May-20 10:40:05

This is Puck. He is coming up to his favourite time of the year?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 29-May-20 10:35:08

Oh wow that is a long lasting tuber! Isn’t it the same as the one Lisa was asking about.

Hot today. Will have to sit in the shade as skin high risk. Too hot to garden during the day.

Rose creamy coloured one is Wollerton Old Hall.
The clematis is Lady Diana and flowers until the autumn
The three pink roses are Harlow Carr
