A bit of cheer

My weigela is an absolute picture this year.

Chewbacca and lemongrove many thanks for that , I shall have to keep my eyes open once the garden centres are open. I pass a garden on my daily dog walk and there are huge camellias blooming . They just look so lovely .

I would avoid the white ones though, as if they get frost burnt they look like bits of toast.

Camelia are perfect for growing in a large pot Loislovesstewie; at my previous house I grew 3, in various colours, very successfully for years. The pot should be as big as possible and you'll need ericaceous soil rather than compost (easily found at garden centres). One tip that I was given was to situate the pot so that it didn't get early morning sun on it. Apparently, early morning dew on the buds makes them drop off if the sun gets on them too early. The perfume is overwhelming.

While I have a captive audience of keen gardeners, could I grow a camellia in a large pot? We only have a courtyard garden . If so is there any variety you would recommend ?

Two of our clematis which seem to be doing well, though flowering a bit earlier than usual.
Garden centres everywhere will soon be opening their doors again, good news for them, the nurseries who supply them and gardeners, although we will be giving it a miss for quite a while.

The azalea has flowered well this year, also the lilac .Some years the photinias flower well and other years not, I don’t know why.

Being South of where you live (and it’s a warm sheltered bit of the garden) things are slightly ‘further on’.

You have a beautiful garden lemon; your lupins are months ahead of mine and look really strong and healthy. Beautiful colour planting scheme too.

This is the only iris in our garden to bloom, yet.

My lovely mother’s name was Iris, so I have a special affinity with the flowers.

A Spring visitor to our garden ?

Beautiful pictures. On my walk yesterday I noticed all the signs of spring unfolding. It was a warm spring day and I thought to myself that I might not be here in a few months, who knows, so I will enjoy each and everyone of these small moments of joy.

That's beautiful.
I noticed, whilst walking the dog this morning, that there are many hedgerow shrubs breaking buds and the Blackthorn blossom is starting to bloom. A house nearby has a huge almond blossom tree. It really lifts the spirits and makes you realise dark days do pass!
