An expert eye

Oxslips are paler than cowslips but I didn't think either tended to have such tapering leaves. No 3 are definitely primroses as found in hedgerows and banks in the wild.

My cowslips have disappeared from the lawn, no-one mowed them, just around them but they were just not there last year.

It is confusing tanith, you're right. Apparently there are 17 different varieties, plus, in the wild, some will be cross pollinated. This is cowslip too but nothing like the others...

Just looking at Chewbacca Cowslips which have hanging flowers are completely different to my Cowslips where the flowers are upright, very confusing.

I’ll check again tomorrow and hopefully flowers will of opened.

I've shown it to my husband. He reckons that it is another variety of primrose. You'll know better when the flowers come out properly.

Oh, do. I shall then trawl through my RHS Plants and Flowers book and also my book of wild flowers......and possibly still fail to recognise it !

It’s the one with no flowers showing that I question Grandmafrench it has longer narrower leaves than my Primroses and Cowslips, maybe once the flowers open I’ll post another pic.

It's not a Cowslip, wrong shaped flowers, but it does look as if it could be an Oxslip or a False Oxslip - the latter would probably depend on what other types of Primroses you have around it. It's very pretty, whatever !
