I have this problem every year . Usually i buy a spray to get rid of them. This year i cant get to the garden centre and wondered if there is an oldfashioned home remedy tried and tested that anyone knows of.???

You can squish them with your fingers ( recommend gloves). Or use diluted washing up liquid.

Same way as Covid-19. Soap. Not necessarily 20 seconds though. Dilute and spray either washing up liquid or soap.

I've never had any problems with greenery aphids on pupils since I started squirting soapy water on them. The little beggars just slide straight off and don't seem to be able to get back on and lay any more eggs. Win win!

I had the same problem. Great big aphids, not puny little things. My solution was to stop growing lupins.

Whitewavemark2- there aren’t enough birds, either that or they are having a lie in.

and there are never enough ladybirds!

Seems a bit early for greenfly. Always used to notice them in June. I used to use washing up liquid on them.

Too early for greenfly? We've had hoards of them on the roses for weeks now.

I think it’s because I always had them on my mock orange and that didn’t flower till a June time. So I always assumed that was when they first appeared. Mind you, I hardly know what day or month it is at the moment!

I agree SpringyChicken. We've had greenfly on our roses for quite a few weeks now. Picking them off, plus spraying with soapy water helps.

love the idea of squirting soapy water on pupils.
is this to remind them to observe govt guidelines re hand washing.
