Talk to them, I won a ‘biggest Sunflower competition’, ?

I can't grow the things! I always lose them to slugs and snails, so may I suggest you use a method of your choice to protect your plants when they are young.
Good luck!

You buy good seeds, put them into small pots, look after the pots and stare anxiously each day to see signs of germination. After a few weeks when nothing has appeared you abandon the idea.

Then you find selfsetters all over the place which have either been dropped by birds or buried by the squirrel, which came out of the wild bird mix.

Good luck.

Thank you both, much appreciated!

Doubt very much of I'll win, there are some very serious gardeners round here, but it will be lovely to see something so cheery when they bloom around the village!

forgot to put that I have them individually in the wee pots , two to a pot you discard the smaller and grow on the sturdier

I suppose you could put a couple in each pot, but if it were me, I would use one small pot per seed. That way, when you come to transplant them, you won't be disturbing the root ball at all.

Good luck, hope you win!!! We shall be needing photos of their progress, you know wink

I have mine started off in small pots with the intention of moving them into the back of the border , if the darn things grow , they are sulking at the moment

Hello all, and good wishes to you.

The village has decided to hold a sunflower growing competion, and as someone popped some seeds through my letter box, I suppose I ought to have a go smile

I have pots of various sizes, and half a bag of compost in the shed.

So, do I start them off in individual small pots indoors, or can I put 2 or 3 seeds in the same pot?

Have never grown sunflowers before, so any advice will be gratefully received!
