This plant has appeared recently. Does anybody know what it is please? There are some dying back Anemone Blanda nearby but the leaves are not the same. The whole plant is about 4 inches across so far.

Might it be the bleeding heart plant, Dicentra Spectabilis?

Ah yes, GrannyLaine! I did buy one from Asda last year and planted it in that spot. Well done! Thank you.

You are welcome. Its a lovely plant but I've never been able to get it to grow.

I’ve always found them incredibly slow growing, probably my garden. I planted two, a white and a pink, 3 years ago. I’m always pleased when they reappear in spring. Although the white does seem to lag behind the pink one.

I once bought two peonies from Wilko for £1. I thought they were a bargain until I read the small print which said not to expect them to flower for the first two years. This year is the second and the plants are very small. I shall be wary of bargains in the future!

I had two dicentra which were lovely for about two years, then disappeared. Do slugs like them?

Be patient with the peonies, we have a few clumps, some have been recent presents, some tubers from MIL's garden years ago and another lot are much travelled, having started as a few tubers brought from our first house 40 years ago and planted in other gardens around the country. We did leave most of them behind, of course.

The oldest ones have just flowered profusely, the others yet to come out.
