Long grass

I've had plenty of free time to mow mine. It's now like a bowling green, my pride and joy. What's your excuse for leaving it? No gardener?

Part of our back garden is on a steep slope so we only cut it 2 or 3 times a year. We were encouraged to leave off mowing by our then 9 year old daughter who had become a bit of an eco warrior and wanted some wild flowers for the butterflies.
I'm so glad we did. On one patch I cleared it by putting cardboard over the grass, which I left to rot for a year, then scattered a couple of packets of wildflower seeds over the bare earth. The rest, mother nature has done.

My elder son would happily and regularly cut my grass and is slightly disappointed and ever so slightly disapproving I insist on letting the grass, daisies, clover, and dandelions grow to full flowering. I like flowers of all sorts.
Later on in the season after flowering, if I am still here, I shall have it cut once or twice and then let it grow again to from a thick thatch to keep the clay from turning into mud in the winter.

I have to say the rest of the garden is the tidiest it's been found years!
