Strawberry runners - have I gone too soon with them?

Can you peg them down into pots around the plants then snip them when they have rooted? Keep watering them.
I did that last year and had lots I could give away.

I think they’ll be fine just let them grow on in the pots and keep watering and protect them from the frost. I’ve kept them in a cold frame over winter back in the day when I had a large veggie patch.

I have cultivated several strawberry runners which have rooted and are doing nicely. But I can see that there are still loads more runners appearing now that I can harvest.

I'm a bit worried that I might have done them too early. I need to snip the umbilical cord on them, but I'm not sure what to do with them now.

Last year (and I can't remember when in the season I did them) I stored them in the greenhouse until planting out this year. But have I done them too soon? Are they "too healthy" to be stored now? Should I have waited a bit longer?
